I followed the instructions in "Hacking Digital Cameras" and was successful in flipping my 990 over to Diagnostic Raw. My Question is what program can I use to view and process the raw files? You make a suggestion in your book, however I'm looking for a non-command line windows program. Is there anything out there that would do this and be free or low cost?
This is an experiment for me,as I'm curious about the quality of the results. I'm not sure yet how practical shooting Raw will be with this camera, though its good to know it can be done.
Thanks for the great book!

I was succesful in using "photopc" with a usb port to get into Diagnostic Raw mode with my 990.
For those that have also done this,I would like to know what programs are available,(other than the one in Cheng's book),to convert and view these raw photos.
If anyone has had any success doing this with any program ,please let me know the details.

Kraig, take a look at RAW to NEF Converter. It suppose to take the raw file and convert them to NEF, which is Nikon's standard raw format. I haven't tried it myself, but I believe you can process NEF in software that came with Nikon cameras, Adobe Camera RAW, and other raw processing softwares. I think RAW to NEF Converter comes in both command-line and GUI versions.
