Nikon D60 -- An Admirable Digital Camera

Nikon is a leading Japanese multinational corporation best known for imaging and optic products. They produce measurement instruments, cameras, binoculars, microscopes and steppers used in photolithography. Nikon is the world's second largest manufacturer of these items. Nikon introduced a user friendly entry level digital camera called Nikon D60.

Nikon D60 is very compact and a conventional looking DSLR. The size of this camera is 126 x 94 x 64 mm. D60 has a 10.2 Megapixels of image resolution with a DX format CCD sensor of 1.5x field of view. It has a large 3.0 inches 230,000 pixels LCD monitor. The ISO sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 3200. It has a shooting mode dial on the top. The info button is on the rear part of the camera. The camera provides continuous shooting of three frames per second up to 100 shots.

It uses the Nikon EXPEED processing concept for higher image quality. It features an optical viewfinder with an eye sensor. The eye sensor automatically turns off the LCD display when the user's eye comes close to the viewfinder eyepiece. It bears a three point autofocusing system. It features a new function named Active D-Lighting which improves the dynamic range. This feature can be used before or after taking the images and we can save the details in low lighting conditions as well.

It comes with a new stabilized AF-S DX 18 to 55 mm kit VR (Vibration Reduction) lens. The shooting features offered by this camera are auto, shutter priority, portrait, landscape, child, sports and so on. It has a 3D color matrix metering as well. It contains an airflow control sensor cleaning system in it. It has an anti dust system which avoids the unwanted dust and junks. The camera has a very nice grip and very comfortable to use.

The AF assist illuminator works around the range of 3 m (10 feet). It contains help suggestions on the LCD display for easy use. The camera takes just one second to store a JPEG image of high quality. For RAW image it takes three seconds to store. It gives excellent noise results. The rangefinder brings fun to the manual mode. The connections available with this camera are high speed USB 2.0 having PTP and mass storage device.

Nikon D60 includes an attractive screen graphics. It supports SDHC and SD cards of over 2 GB in capacity for storage purpose. It uses an EN-EL9 lithium ion rechargeable battery for power. D60 gives 450 shots for a single full time charge. The camera weighs 522 grams (18.41 ounces) with battery and 471 grams (16.61 ounces) without battery. This camera is quite easy to handle. Nikon D60 is best suitable for amateur shooters and all professional photographers.
