According to the Nikon Coolpix 5700 manual, you have to be in either User 1,2 or 3 to manually adjust your aperture, focus, exposure, ISO and other settings. You can choose any of these by depressing the respective button while rotating the command dial simultaneously. I have tried to do so but the settings are stuck to whatever default the camera has. In short, it doesn't work.
I am stuck in Auto mode and sometimes I need a particular setting for a shot. Anyone with the same problem? Any suggestions how to repair this malfunction (aside from going to a service center)? My unit was bought in the US and I'm in Asia now, so sending it for repairs is not pragmatic at this time.

I have the same problem, and it's really bothering me.
I can't even change the picture size, or take a picture anymore without pressing the lock key or opening the menu.
I hope someone can help with this.
Thank you, Dmien
