Using the Sony EyeToy as a USB WebCam on your PC
Today, I had the idea of using a USB PC web-cam with my Sony PS2. In the past few years, the Sony EyeToy webcam for the PlayStation 2 has became quite popular because several games are now available for it. I have a PC USB webcam, so I thought maybe it's possible to use it with the PS2. That has proven to be impossible, but I did find that the reverse works. In the "Installing the Playstation 2 EyeToy as a Webcam" article, the author explains how to use the EyeToy as a USB web-cam on your PC. Now I'm looking forward to getting an EyeToy.

The new hardware dialog didn't pop-up could be caused by an "Unknown Device" driver being already installed in the "Device Manager". Open up Windows Device Manager, delete the "Unknown Device", and try again.

Thanks everyone my eye cam works fine now as a webcam. I just downloaded the drivers, took me 2 or 3 minutes. I paid 10 bucks for this thing and it looks 10 times better than the 50 dollar web cam I have. Only one thing tho when I click on (OV519CAP Video Capture Program) to take still images for my website nothing happens. Can someone help? and if I missed a thread sorry :) lol andrew you are funny!!

I tried to install it once without installing the appropriate drivers. Now I have installed them, but when I plug the eyetoy in, the computer does nothing. I get no pop ups, no bubbles, and nothing in device manager or my computer. What the?

To open Device Manager, click on Start, Control Panel, System and have a look around for a button hat says Device Manager (obviously). I am presuming you run Windows!

To install any device under Windows NT or XP or 2000 0r 2003 you must be logged on with Administrator priveliges. If you just log on with user priveliges you will get the you do not have priveliges to add/remove hardware message.
If this is a works machine you will probably not be able to install the eye toy only the site administrator will be able.
If its a home machine log out then log back in with the administrator account you setup when you first installed your copy of windows.
If you have forgoton it you will have to re load windows and create one !.

i tried it and it worked at first but then a few minutes later it all stopped and a little wizard come up at the bottom sayin found new hardware but it might not work properly or something like that and it wouldnt work from then on can you tell me why if you know? thanks email me!!

i have the black namtai eyetoy (SLEH-00031) and used a step by step site last year to convert my eyetoy to a webcam, which was succesful. after rebooting my laptop and attempting to repeat this process it will not work. however, it does work on my computer? it works all the way to the last window of the wizard where instead of saying the installation has been succesful it says there is a problem with the new hardware (error code 10) the device will not start.
please help?

i got the eye toy to work on this PC before, but now it sez unkown device as oppiosed to found new hardware.
u go through the same steps as with found new but it tells me taht the drivers are no better than the ones already installed (LIES). I ahev ununstalled and tried again but no luck

Hi well im 12 and downloaded off the klink thing. what you need to do is browse for it yourself and it just installs it of you click on one of the things. im sorry its hard to explai but if a 12 yer old (computer whizz) can do it a rown man of 30 cant! im really good at pc's though!

Joey, it would really help if be more specific (that goes for many of you that post "It doesn't work, help!"), such as what Windows version you are using. There are almost 10 different variety of Windows. And Device Manager is located in a different place different versions of Windows.
Assuming you are using XP . . . Click on the "Start" menu. Right click on "My Computer". Select "Properties". Click on the "Hardware" tab. Click on "Device Manager".

What kind of icon is next to it? Does it have a 'X' on it or an '!' on it or a '?' on it? If so, the wrong driver is installed/not working. You might want to remove it and try installing the right driver.

Everything works GREAT! Perfect Picture, Mic works and LED turns on when in use....!
Found some Free DVR software on the net called LUXRIOT... It works with the cam! Motion sensor\\DVR Recorder\\Server, Client based! Remote view... Google it! You won't be let down... BTW I got my cam for $5.00 at Ebgames Used section!

Hi guys its been asked a number of times here and still no answer...im having the same problem with trying to take pics with the eyetoy, as a webcam it works fine and i can capture single frames but when i save the image i then cannot open it...i have also tried opening ov519CAP but it will not open (shuts down as soon as it opens!)
For example i have saved a single image to "my pictures" but when i try to view it the file is unrecognized..
Any help would be well appreciated....

Hi I have a LG Laptop and Iam trying to install the sleh-00030 eye toy as a webcam.
Your instructions are easy to follow which I have done now for the 7th time.
The problem I am having is that after I extract the file and plug the webcam in it comes up with the found new hardware, which is correct so far.
After I go through the steps and putting in the folder where the files were extracted to it and I click next, it searches and then comes back saying it couldn't be installed cause it can't find the drivers.
Iam sure I have done everything correct by your instructions, but I cant figure out why it can't find the drivers when I tell it the correct folder to search in?.

are you all retarded????? you all are clearly not half as intelegent as you need to be to install it...im 16 and i have two eyetoys both running on the same computer, ive set up dual capture mode so i can use them simultaniously...without any help... just google the name of your eyetoy (SLEH000 etc) followed by the word "drivers" and hundreds of sites come up... most of them with useful readme's. i have recently FAILED my ict course at school and yet i can do all of this with ease!
if at the end of the day you can't use it then no big deal, its not that great! but trust me, if you're smart enough to leave a comment on this blog then YOU CAN DO IT

it just keeps coming up with unknown device in usb port .
i don't know what to do , because when i try to load a driver it just say's that the current driver would work better , altho their is no driver loaded to it .

I have successfully installed eyetoy on two other machines, but when I attempt to install it on my own, Window's doesn't detect it. I have tried everything that has already been suggested. The eyetoy won't even show up as an 'unknown device', but remains completely undetected.

I have a problem with trying to use my eyetoy (SLEH-00031) I used norbies drivers once and it worked until i rebooted and had to keep unplugging and plugging back in everytime i switched pc on, but since formatting the pc norbies has gone so havnt got them drivers no more, I have other drivers but when i plug the cam in i get "usb device not recognized" balloon and thats it, ive tried deleting unknown device from device manager but get the same messege over and over when plugging eyetoy in. Anyone got any advice ?

i installed my eyetoy as a webcam just fine, until i unplugged it and plugged it back in, then in device manager it said it was an unknown device under universal serial bus controllers, im running windows xp service pack 2, ive tried to uninstall the driver, and then it popped back up as unknown device right after uninstalling. i dont know what to do anymore. plz email me some directions or something :) thanx!

This driver worked for my Silver Eyetoy (Has no model number).
Note!!! If you have already tried to install using wb0.9.311007_INSTALLER.zip then the Eyetoy will say it's a "Namtai". After you install 31eyetoy.zip it will appear as "D-Link VGA Webcam".

There are links to download for models 00030 and 00031 on that site.
I have also attached the one I used to this comment.
Also, If you have already tried to install the camera and failed, you'll need to open
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add Hardware

[Next]
Select the camera from the list then follow the instructions on the website above.

Whenever I put my Eyetoy in it came up with the Found New Hardware Wizard.
But now it has stopped. How do I get it back?

By removing the incorrect driver stub from "Device Manager". It's probably marked with an exclamation mark. You can get to the "Device Manager" by right clicking on "My Computer".

Hey.
I'm having a bit of trouble...
I've dowloaded the drivers that are needed for my eye toy to be converted to a webcam and all that, but when it comes to actually plugging the eye toy in, it's not coming up with the new found hardware thing. So it looks as if my eye toy hasn't been recognised? I don't know how to get it recognised by the computer.
I'm using Windows XP by the way.

I have the old black eyetoy, I installed it on my XP computer with no problem, I tried to install it on Vista, but when it finishes it says something about the D-Link VGA Webcam is not working and I can check for solutions but this does nothing. It is so easy to install this webcam on windows vista 32 bit I need to find a way to install it on 64 bit and I will walk every one through how to install it on the 32 bit version shit I will even give you the drivers I have them all.

ANd check which EyeToy You Have and if u have A 'logitech' click on logitech link and download it if you have a 'namtai' click on namtai link and download it are you guys Stupid i am 15 and able to figure it out and my lil bro who is 12 without much I.T knowledge was able to do that
