Use the File Link Codes if you want to link it on your own web site.

HI. Sorry to bother you, but I've spent 7 hours looking for the ibm pc webcam driver that you talked about on your camerhacker.com site (i don't know how old that post was) and unfortunately, the only sites that have it our subscription driver sites. I even signed up for one of those sites, and they never meailed me my confirmation. (probably just sold my email to a list. sigh)
I was wondering if you still had the installation software for the webcam?
Thanks

I also downloaded the driver, and get a message at the end of the installation saying
"An error occurred during the installation of the device.
The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device."
I decided that it is not worth it because I had so much problems with my old laptop and this is a brand new one with XP.
Anyway Thanks for the detail installation. You are very cool!

Hey everyone. I have struggled with finding the driver myself...but try this:
http://cheserver.ent.ohiou.edu/Drivers/IBMcameraS/
I did a google on the file name itself and came up with an .edu source (free). I loaded it and it works.
I wish I could adjust the frames per second with this camera - anybody know how? Video is real choppy.
Good luck.

Anyone know where I can get the software for this? I did everything the way it said to do for the driver and when I got to the end it told me it could not find the software - But I no longer have the CD with the software on it and can't locate it on any websites to just download it ... Please, oh please, help me, it shouldn't be so hard to find something so simple! Thank you to anyone who can help!

Fri, 16 Jun 2006 22:51:56 -0700
Never mind on the above question because after way too much searching I finally found the CD. But now I have another problem. When I try to start the camera with the software, it gives me this message: "Video camera is not working properly. The request is not supported". I then noticed the little green light on top doesn't come on - which tells me it isn't getting power, maybe? I unplugged it and plugged it back in to the port where my printer was plugged in to just to see if maybe it was that port, but it won't work in either ports. I also checked the USB Root Hubs properties and it says the device is working properly. Please..... H-E-L-P! This is driving me crazy!!!

Chieh -
Thanks for the nice article on how to get the IBM PC camera to work in Windows XP. I had a little twist on the instructions you gave though. My computer found 3 "suitable" INF files for this camera (after clicking on the "Reinstall Device Driver" button. The first of the tree choices started to install, but could not complete due to an error. The second choice installed flawlessly.
I'm just telling you this in case you would like to amend your write-up. In any case, your information was quite helpful in getting this camera to work

Thanks for the very informative site. For some reason my PC camera quit working and I was getting the "not connected" error msg. I wasn't able to find the installation CD and started to use the Wizard to find and reinstall the driver but freaked out and stopped when the scary msg came up. I found this site in Google and proceeded to reinstall that driver and everything works perfectly. Thanks a lot.

Excellent site. Thanks so much for putting this site up. It helped me get my old PC Camera installed in my new Windows XP system. Couldn't have done it without you. It is still "my OLD PC Camera" and slower than some of the new cameras I've seen around, but it works. Again, Thanks.

This article's instructions were exactly how I installed my IBM PC cam onto my Windows XP four years ago, but now I have Windows Vista, and it is not working. I installed the software 1st, restarted, plugged in the cam, and it said that the driver was installed correctly but the device will not turn on/camera is not plugged in. I tried updating the driver via internet, and it always tells me that I have the most up to date driver already installed. I searched the web and found DriverDetective, but all of the "free" downloads cost $29.99 to make the program actually update and fix the Vista drivers. What is wrong with Vista? Where can I find a real FREE download to help me install my pc cam onto Windows VISTA (home basic)? Thanks.

I followed the instructions that you outlined and the camera worked fine. (for a short time ) Then I got the unwanted blue screen that windows gives you when there is a major problem and shuts down.
I reported the error and the responce was that the IBM camera was at fault. any Ideas?

I agree with some of the other posts that you people are lifesavers. I never thought my old IBM PC Camera made for Windows 98 or 2000 would work with my present computer running Windows XP Home Edition.
However, following your step-by-step instructions showing every screen along the way,it works PERFECTLY.
Thank you very much. You saved me a lot of work and money if I would have bought a new camera,

Your a life saver. Like you my camera was old. I had gotten it years ago from a promotion from Earthlink but had never taken it out of the box. My daughter who lives a distance away suggested getting cameras for visual chats. Already having one I thought I would set it up to encourage her to do the same. I set it up but it didn't work. I spent a couple of hours trying to get it to work and at one time had come across the Wizard but clicked on No to continue because it wasn't for XP. Once I saw and followed the information in your article I was up and running in a few minutes. Thank you for the information. I was about to buy a newer up to ate camera to get it to work. This one works great. Now I have to figure out how to do video conferencing. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks. We had one little diversion in a screen where we had to click continue anyway, but then we were on track and the problem is now fixed. We sure had to go through a lot of trouble to find this fix that was so simple. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks so much. I was given a new IBMPC camera almost 5 or more years ago by friend. In cleaning up areas of my garage I came accross the camera and decided to try and install it on an XP system. I got all the error messages you indicated during the process. My search of the net brought me to your article. I am up and running thanks to you

I did this process twice - first with the original disk, then with the (presumably updated for XP) downloaded file.
BOTH times the Camera worked fine - stand alone. But it interfered with the Network Driver (?).
i.e., I get the Camera to work, I lose Internet connection.
I get Internet connection restored, I lose the Camera.
Anyone else have this problem or have any solution(s)?

I tried again (#3) but did more snooping this time.
As stated above, working camera = no Internet connection.
Internet connection = no camera.
Both drivers appear to be fine. But here's what I found:
At command prompt: ipconfig returns "can't find file specified" & "unable to open registry key for tcpip"
However, it DOES ping the Router AND I CAN communicate with the Router
AND all my wireless devices are not affected.
Anybody...............?????

It works! Thanks! The great thing about this is that you don't have to download any drivers from anywhere and expose yourself to viruses (as long as you still have the original disk, which I did)
The only thing I found different from your explanation is that Windows found 3 drivers in my PC, so I chose the top one, just to try. It worked!
Thanks again, Chieh.

Excerpt: Don't forget that you can hack this camera to get 640x480 by changing a setting in the registry! The instructions used to be available on cameratechsupport.com/IBM/PCPro/software_pcpro.asp but that is now someone's site to capture ad clicks so don't go there. I can't remember what needs to be ed . . .
