making a miniDV player from spare parts

I would like to make a player (no recording necessary) for miniDV tapes made on a handycam. Main reason is that my camera records well but video output (USB,Firewire and composite) not working. In stead of getting a used camera (from eBay, say) just to play, is it possible to remove this function from a (junker) camera not working for other reasons?
