Problems capturing audio/video

I recently purchased a Panasonic PV-GS15 mini DV and gave my old Sony miniDV camera away. I thought I could capture the video/audio off tapes recorded on the Sony with the Panasonic, but in trying to do so, I find the audio cuts out and the images seem to skip and hop. I've had no problem capturing from tapes that were recorded on the Panasonic. Is there some trick I need to utilize? I don't remember what model of Sony camera I previously had....only it was purchased in 2000. Thanks..
