Lots of ways to turn video into an animated GIF

While writing up my "Capturing Lunar Eclipse on Video" article, I figured I wanted to add a real short sample of video to the article. But I wanted to do it in the animated GIF format (or maybe animated PNG? Does PNG support animation?). That's when I came across the "AVI to GIF?" thread on another site. That thread provides a bunch of methods to do the conversion on Linux, Mac OS, and Windows. Many of the solutions presented are using software that are free or software that you already have. It's a wonderful thread for video content producers.
