Digital Concepts Digital Camera

I have to say, I agree. The digital concepts cameras are a waste of money and time. there is a lag in shot time as well, so you can't just take a snap shot, it pauses and says "processing data" before it takes the picture.

Hi, I also bought this camera. As Chris says above, this camera is practically useless in lowlight. There is no reason whatsoever to own this camera. Cheap shouldn't mean worthless. I guess the little yellow insert which says 'please do not return to the store if any problem with the camera' should have been a warning; but I didn't know until I opened the thing. I'd had a Gemini before, and had excellent picture quality (for what it was, a digital camera on a keychain, but it was great, and the software that came with it was kickass, particularly in comparison with this waste of money)... unfortunately I can't get this one install the drivers properly, even after uninstalling the Gemini and its drivers. I thought I was doing something wrong so I went to the CD itself... and the computer is still telling me it wants to install the Dual Camera CIF drivers for the Gemini.

I bought it because it was cheap, it came with its own stand, and I actually believed what it said on the back about 'enhance your photos'... but good god. There are NO true options whatsoever for 'enhancing a photo' in spite of what's written on the back. I have never come across digital software where there was no manual option to correct contrast! Your only options are 'cropping', 'red eye' and some b.s. called 'one click enhance', and 'undo'. AOL offers more useful options than this. Who cares about adding date/time stamps when the photo itself can't be manually manipulated the way you choose to do so.

I hope walmart takes this back. :(

This may be a dumb question, but how do you get an SD card to work with this camera? I just got an EDGE ProShot 2Gb 130X SD card, but when I copy pics, they don't show up. I also tryed to connect the camera with the crd in it, and it never recognised the camera, or the card.

I just recieved this cam for x-mas and it sucks. It does not show the pic to be captured on the screen well. This thing is busted and i want my * money back. How can you make a camera that doesn't even work. When I put my memory card in from my other camera it deleted all of my pictures. I am pretty ticked off about this too. I want my * money back. I reccomend that no one buys any type of equipment from DIGITAL CONCEPTS. (With a name like that anyway)

This is a good first time camera for a young person, but it becomes useless really fast. it makes a pretty good webcam if a lamp is directly next to it. but otherwise its crap

Thu, 28 Dec 2006 17:00:55 -0800

Well despite all the ordeals youve faced with the camera;
it works PERFECT for me and i bought it USED at a freaking PAWN SHOP.
it costed like 25 bucks and all i needed to buy was a memory card and a usb cord.
the quality isnt "GEEZ SO WONDERFUL" but i could definetly live with it.
it is a great camera for me and i take pictures with it 24/7.
so everything about digital concepts isnt bad.

Bought this camera for my daughter for Christmas - she used it once, the batteries died and it hasn't worked since!!!!! I thought for a first time camera, 40 bucks wasn't so bad if she broke it or something, but evidentally they come already broken so you don't have to worry about doing it yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!

This camera sucks big time. The picture quality is horrible, especially when using flash indoors. I don't know how this company can get away with ripping people off like this. Thats why they don't allow treturns they know everyone woyuld be returning it. I think I will report to the state because this is definately fraudulent behavior on the part of this company. If you haven't bought one of these cameras yet DON'T!!!!!!

Mon, 01 Jan 2007 14:21:29 -0800

I bought this camera for my son for Xmas. I never could get it to download properly and, as a previous customer stated, once the battery died we never got it started again.

I was extremely disappointed in this merchandise and the customer service. I called at least 20 times on 12/25 and 12/26. The last time I called, I received a voice mail that informed me that the CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS were too busy to take my call and could I call back later? We received a "little" slip of paper telling us to PLEASE not return the product to the store from where we had purchased it? WHY??? Because the manufacturers of this product will be required to pay the store back for the price we paid.

I paid $19.95 at Radio Shack. I see from some of your e-mail that you paid alot more. If there is an Attorney out there that would be willing to investigate this matter, I am sure you would acquire SEVERAL unhappy customers that would be willing to discuss this matter with you.

I plan to file a complaint with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and I suggest you do TOO.

When i connect it to my computer windows says it a defective device. It download 2 jpegs. both logos. Wal mart will take it back with recipt. dont let the card fool you. I figure they arent going to balk wal mart when they want credits for them. Wal mart has alot of money and alot of time.

My friend got this camera for christmas, and was very upset when the battery fried. She dropped it off at my house hoping I could fix it, but I see that this has happened to more than a few customers. This should definitely be looked into.

I'm thinking this camera sucks! I bought it for my little girl for her bithday. We can take photos, but can't get the software to work with our Windows XP system. Can't get through to technical support, but the camera came with a packing slip that says do not return non working product to the store. "Yeah Right". I will quickly return it as soon as I find an ink remover to clean off my daughter's name that she wrote on it. I think this was a waste of money....

I, also, was a dummy and bought this camera at a pawn shop... in a state thats 3 away from where I live. So I'm pretty SOL. I am pretty unhappy with this camera. I cant take any good pictures because its crappy without the flash and when I use the flash its too bright. Everything is whited out. And not to mention when I use the flash on a "test shot" on myself it only showed 1/2 my eyes and I looked cross eyed. Not very appealing.

Same story here...bought this camera for my daughter for Christmas and it didn't come with the software. Downloaded the driver on Sakar homepage and can not get it to recognize. Either the driver is bad or the camera is. Does anybody have a copy of the CD that was suppose to come with it that they are willing to share?

I was dumb enough not to do my research first. This thing is a piece of shit. It says the LED should light up when charging - does not. Software does not install right. Camera is never detected by the computer. WALMART better take it back or they will be hearing quite a bit from me. Im no computer whiz, but I know when its my fault and when it isnt...there is no hope with this piece of chinese crap. Anyone puts a lawsuit together, lemme know...I'll sign too!

Sonny
Sun, 07 Jan 2007 07:12:06 -0800

I was using it and it had off and on luck, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. The worst problem I had with it was at a concert, I took quite a few pictures, got home and... they were just gone. Not on my phone's memory at all. Today, I tried to turn it on to take some pictures of signs I'm taking to a wrestling event on Tuesday and nothing happened. Changed batteries around five times and it still won't turn on, but if I plug it into the computer like I'm about to upload pics, it'll turn on then but not allow me to do anything. I'm never buying another Digital Concepts creation again. And I'd advise everyone else to go elsewhere too.

Sun, 07 Jan 2007 14:05:25 -0800

Okay. The camera is crap. My daughter got one for christmas and it's the same story. The battery went out, we tried to put new ones in and the camera started to smell like it was on fire or something. To all of those folks who have something good to say about these electronic nightmares, how much did digital concepts pay you????????

Karen
Mon, 08 Jan 2007 17:49:08 -0800

ha..so i just read all of these..and it sounds like a bunch of mom's that are upset because their kids nor themselves can figure out electronics..the camera i bought is cheap as hell..20 bucks..i would NEVER spend that little amount of money on a digital camera..what are you people thinking?..you're right..you do get what you pay for..no big deal right?..deal with it..your mistake..i have the little bitty camera that kayla shows above so nicely..no flash..just a cheap little piece of crap..but it works just fine..i admit that i had a few problems..such as my computer wouldn't recognize the device..well i plugged it into a different usb port and it did just fine....i read the instructions and it says clearly that you DO NOT CHARGE IT BEFORE YOU UPLOAD THE PICTURES..you will lose that data..my LED light works just fine when i plug it into the computer..and has a nice little display of "PC" on the tiny cute little screen on the backside
I just have to say that filing a lawsuit against this company is completely ridiculous..i mean it was twenty bucks..come on..grow the fuck up people..if you have 20 bucks to blow then you obviously can take in the matter that sometimes things don't work..and yes..wal-mart will take it back..fuck that piece of paper..who at wal-mart knows that its in there anyhow..right?..right
So before you go and try to throw all kinds of hell..remember that you're not the only pissed off person in the world..dont make someone elses day hell because you couldn't get a piece of shit to work..you're not God..nor am I..read the instructions to the damn thing..and you should know its not going to last forever anyhow..its not even a real brand name..damn..back off
talk to someone else..

Sat, 20 Jan 2007 23:33:44 -0800

Ok first of all, are you really going to sue a company because you don't have any common sense or knowledge about cameras?

If you want a high quality photo save your money and get a nice camera. Im sick of reading these posts that say "i got this 20 dollar camera for my daughter for christmas and it doesn't work, its breaking her heart i am going to sue the company"

first of all, don't buy a shitty cam for your kid. second if you buy a shitty camera for your kid and it doesnt work, maybe this is about the time you should start explaining how the economy works, teach them that high end products cost alot of money and apologize to them and say you are going to do better. third. open your eyes and realize that just because a product says it is digital doesnt mean you are going to get better quality than a disposable camera. It comes in hermetically sealed packaging people!!!!! You would never see a cannon SLR in plastic wrap. and finally, you can't sue a company for selling products that you are stupid enough to buy. If you are unhappy with the camera, return it to the store for a refund and become a better customer by researching products before you buy them.

idiots.

Mandy
Sat, 27 Jan 2007 07:31:08 -0800

For those of you that are having problems with picture quality, try a different camera program on your computer. You can still get the pictures off of your camera, but edit them them with a better program. The PhoTags express progam that comes with the digital cameras is not very good, and you really don't need it.

Mandy

I bought one of these cameras for my niece at Christmas,
and it had been working fine, until a couple of days ago,
when she put new baterries in and they got extremely hot.
Also the camera wouldn't turn on. What could be the problem
or should we exchange it for another one.

My son got this camera for christmas, because he will be taking a class on digital photography. Pics he took at christmas have terrible color and are blurry It goes through a pack of batteries per week. I would love to return it but they won't take it back. My daughter bought the camera for her daughter for Christmas.
She took pictures.
She has a 256MB SD card.
The pictures show up in the monitor window.
When we put the card into my PC (Windows XP SP2) I get message that says that the disk is not formatted, do you want to format?
I put the SD card in my Toshiba, and get the not formatted display.

Whats up

bought the 6.1 megapixel, NOT $20, it was over $90 with tax, every picture is completely black no joke, I think the shutter is stuck or something, (and no I didn't leave the cap on.. doesn't even have one.) called the service number but so far no answer, emailed them this morning and no reply.. I'm still hoping. maybe I'm not doing something right.. who knows, but to answer some peoples questions about cd and manual, it comes inside of the cardboard in the back of the package (very, very hard to notice it unless you take the whole package apart, particularly at a function like Christmas.) wonder why there is no tech help here, considering all the questions, complaints etc..

Thu, 15 Feb 2007 18:26:58 -0800

Hey Josh,
How old are you? Like 12 or something? Why don't you act like you know something about life- yeah, and get back to me in about 20 years. Your judgements on people who can't afford to spend several hundred dollars on a camera for their teenager are way out of line. I bought a 4 tiny little digital cameras(NOT digital concepts brand) for my kids at 11 dollars a piece and knew that they wouldn't be the best picture quality. They worked great, downloaded great and gave the quality pictures we expected. Why? Because the company wasn't out to scam people and take their money. You don't think digital concepts is out to take people for a ride? Grow up. There ARE cheating, lying, decieving, SCAMMING companies out there. Of course I can't expect you to understand that yet. Go judge somebody else and take your teenage know-it-all attitude and shove it up your ass. Bye now.

Karen
Tue, 20 Feb 2007 12:50:39 -0800

I don't know about other Wal Marts, but the one I work at will only take them back if you have EVERYTHING that came with the camera unless you want to exchange or get a gift card. I also couldn't get the device recognized, and it appears as though it's not charging, unless of course it's that the light doesn't work. That's always a good sign right off. I'm giving up trying. (At least it was only $14 will my discount.)

this camera is really and truly a piece of crap, i spent like 25 bucks on it at Toys R Us, and now that i have put new batteries in it, it will not work .... at all....a friend of mine has the same camera and has had the same problem, so therefor it is the camera and the quality of it, it last about a month then kicks the bucket

Ashley
Fri, 23 Feb 2007 20:15:55 -0800

This camera is truly a let down. I know that there would be some compromise but I never expected this camera to be so crappy. Just like what others had said, without flash this thing is useless. The photos turn out very dark although the room is well lighted. With flash, however, you can't take self portraits because the flash is so strong.

Enweis, what i did was tape a piece of paper on the flash portion so that i can take self portraits. At least I can see my face now.

<_<; Mine work[s/ed] just fine... The only problem that I have now is that I [lost] my CD driver and I can't find it anywhere on the Internet... I had a recent computer issue, so I had to reformat it and reinstall practically EVERYTHING... Sorry about my nerd speech. In a nutshell... My computer died and I resurrected it.

I Google'd it and this site was the first to show up. There's my sign.

I'll admit... The flash SUCKS. When I have flash on, the whole picture has an orange tint, and I can't fix it no matter how many times I Photoshop it. It's not working.

But when the flash is off, it's even worse, so...

Bleh.

I haven't had any problems with my SD card in it... [I dropped it ONE time and it cleared my pictures, but it still works just fine, so it's good enough for me.]

Everybody else's Wal-Mart just sucks. [=

DO NOY BUY THIS CAMERA!!!! It Is TRASH! People are saying that you get what you pay for,but a product should work properly regardless of the price.Mine has every problem that is mentioned above and than some.It is a shame that these kinda companies get away with selling this kind of junk to people that work hard for their money.Yes,things happen, but we need to stand up to these types of manufacturers so they can stop putting our money in their pockets. And all we get in return is worthless JUNK!!!

Man, wish I read all these reviews before I bought the bastard. Fortunately, I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend and I haven't given it to her and I always keep the reciept. So, I'll return it and pay an extra 20 bucks for a 5mp HP camera for her instead. No big deal on my end, and I'm sure most problems can be worked out by reading the destruction manual. However, to avert disaster from a technically challenged girlfriend and this gadget, it's going back to the store! I knew I shouldn't trust a camera sealed like a condom! Thanks for the post that saved me from one upest girlfriend!

this camera is absolutely worthless!! I got it for Christmas from my mom, and I feel bad theat she wasted her money on such a piece of garbage!!! Forget about taking any pics at aal in low light, and if you use the flash, everyones faces come out solid white. I might as well throw away this piece of crap!! Now I know why there was a warning on the inside of the package to not return it to the store you bought it from if it doesn't work. I'm calling the manufacturer...

Mon, 09 Apr 2007 22:24:01 -0700

Sure, it's a crappy camera. But hey, I got it for $15 and was not expecting a Canon, okay?

Though it does not support Linux, Linux does support *it*. I am running the Kanotix livecd with gphoto2 and can access the camera through the browser like it was a removable drive. No software to install.

And as for the batteries--use rechargable, and don't put it in until you are ready to use it, and plan your picture taking to allow the shortest time to your computer. Then either take the battery out or put something between it and one of the tabs (like a little piece of paper or plastic) till you need it again.

If you are going to be cheap, at least be realistic!

This camera (<-caution needed) is a piece of poo. It feels like an empty tin can, captures after the fact, and forget about focus-! Images are gutto, rage is the game, when you think you've cought the perfect moment, the GD thing needs time to 'think', Blah, blah...what a disaster even for a low budget camera.

Go buy a low-end Sony, etc..

All I want to know is if the little disk that comes with the keychain digital camera will go into my iMac. The disk is really small, and all I have is a slot that is for a regular disk. Will this disk get stuck in the slot? WIll it come back out? I have to put it in there to install it right? Thanks if anyone answers this!

i agree with josh...all 'yall who want to spend umpteen thousand dollars for a lawsuit against a company that makes cheap cameras (that's why ya bought it wasn't it?) should then in theory be able to part with 60 or 70 bucks. and if you bought it for a kid in the first place ya gotta also know kids don't take care of stuff which is why you didn't want to part with anymore than the 60 ro 70 bucks in the first place for a real nice camera you coulda gotten on ebay (i got a 5.1mp kodak easyshare over two years ago for less than $150 when they were retailing at best buy for $350). you didn't want to get your kid a nice camera for fear they would bust it or something so you got a nice safe cheapy that should serve the purpose....am i right? i bet i am. i am not saying the fault is all on the kids for not taking care of the camera at all, i know i have run into products that are lemons right out of the box myself and i have spent quite alot more money on them in the first place. i think people just need to get things in perspective. $60 camera not working and having to take it back to the store does not equal life shattering experience. this is not gong to cause cancer people.....

You folks are all lucky, I couldn't even get my damn cam to turn on! I tried several types of batteries ment for digital cameras, even tried some regular old duracell AA's and no luck. I read the Digital Concepts camera comments.
I think that the problem with these cameras is that they seem to be marketed as toys to an un-sophisticated audience.

A digital camera is really a miniature computer with an attached lens. If your VCR display is still flashing 12:00, have a nerdy friend configure your camera and computer for you.

It looks like several models are being discussed here.
Don't these things have model numbers ?

http://www.sakar.com/driverdownloads.aspx

lists over 20 models, and allows download of manuals and drivers. I read one of the manuals and it made perfect sense to me. It was no worse than most manuals that come with electronic equipment - but I am a nerd, not a child or soccer mom.

NERD NOTES:
One comment gives a clue on the 'the computer doesn't see the camera' problem.
There are two versions of USB, USB-1 and USB-2. A USB-2 device may not work with a USB-1 connection. Really old computers may have only USB-1, or no USB at all. Newer machines probably have both versions. If the camera doesn't work on one of the USB connections, try another.

All cameras and USB memory devices that I have used show up in 'My Computer' and can be treated like hard drives. No special drivers are needed. The software that comes with the camera is not essential. It just makes it easier to load, view, and edit the picture files.

BTW - why are all thes newbie questions appearing in a hacker list ?

Heads up for those looking to get it to read the SD cards (push in and it will release the card). I got a lot of the same problems (couldn't recognize it...etc).

I found out it was the cable length (bought a separate reader with 12" cable, came with 24" cable). I tried it on XP and 2000 machines. With the shorter cable, both camera could be seen as well as reader.

Hope others can confirm.

This camera is not worth the pieces it took to manufacture it. As far as the comments people made which refer that consumers shouldn't buy a no name or research before they buy a product, well most of us have jobs in the real world. Further, that is what consumer protection is all about. When we spend our money for a product, regardless what name it has on it (for many companies that produce "brand name" items also contract out to smaller companies with their own logos for inexpensive fees to cater to consumers) we do so in good faith and expect that item to function exactly as it is advertised. Otherwise, that is considered false advertising and yes, it can be construed as such and lawsuits can arise from thus. I paid $70 for this camera and am very knowledgeable of how to work digital cameras, video cameras and a plethera of other gadgets in the electronic field; therefore, it has nothing to do with an individual's capability of working the camera but rather, the camera's inability to function as advertised. So, before you decide to lash out at these people who have had bad experiences, just remember, just because you haven't doesn't mean that the camera isn't working as described for others. Consider yourself lucky, you hit the lottery in the scammer world, for you have the one in 1000 that actually functions. I am also sure that these people who have posted in a negative manner wasn't doing it just to bitch, they were doing it as a way to warn others like yourself not to get scammed - definitely not to put thereselves out there to be bludgeoned by your hateful and sarcastic remarks. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to function a digital camera in today's age and most of these people (I am sure) can do so perfectly or at least to the point of getting the camera to take a picture without much difficulty; so please don't consider yourself a high level genius just because you got a digital camera to work and these others, including myself, did not. The camera is less than adequate regardless if it was $20 or $70. As consumers, you each have the option to file a complaint against the company and you will get a response if you do so with the Better Business Bureau. You can do this online as well. The BBB will contact the company and attempt for a resolve of your issue. Make sure to request that all responses are to be written to you mailing address so in case you decide to take it further in a legal setting. Also, call the store in which it was purchased even if it was a gift, explain what is going on and they should attempt to assist you with resolving it. If the representative does not seem to be going in that direction, then ask for a supervisor and make sure you get names so you can have that for when you take your camera back. I hope this helps any of you. Good luck.

I guess you people aren't very good with computers & electronics. I have had that camera for 3 or 4 years now and it works great! It's worth the money if you can't afford $200+ for a digital camera. It takes great outdoor pictures and works well as a webcam too. I haven't had ANY of the problems everyone's complaining about on here. But then, I can read instructions... *rolling my eyes*

People - there is a FLASH switch on the back. It slides left-right for Off and On. Secondly, if you want to get an SD card for it, the max the camera can address is 512 MB. It's all in the instruction booklet!!! Geez!! LOL

Mine works okay and I've had it over a year. The only downside is you cant leave the batteries in them because it will run them dry. If it didn't eat so many batteries it would be worth it, but it does so it isn't. I just bought a bunch of rechargeables and use those so its at least more economical. I wouldn't suggest buying one however. I have a cheaper Vivitar and it works well, doesn't eat batteries. I suggest going with a name brand (HP, Cannon, etc) even though they are pricey. Its worth it.

I just bought that little Keychain Digital Concepts (Sarkar.com) for $6 at Walmart. I checked the comments online and was convinced that it was useless. But honestly, I loded the software and snapped a few pics and they look pretty good for a 6 dollar camera. I wasn't expect a Nikon. My daughter will use it for summer camp - it's just right for that job. If it gets lost or stolen, who cares? It also seems to me it would be a simple web cam for monitoring, say, your house while your out of town.

Wow, I purchased the 5.1 Digital Camera for my 8 yr. old son to take on a summer trip. This device is not worth it! The CD doesn't have the proper driver on it and the Driver Download site for Sakar doesn't have it either. The camera takes crappy pictures and I can't do anything with them because I can't download them to a computer. I guess the old adage is true...you get what you pay for! All I can say is "Let the buyer beware!"

Thu, 14 Jun 2007 21:01:47 -0700

I have one of these cameras, and the pictures are great and I edit them on the camera and it works well for me. I'm having problems with the video's being fuzzy when I download them to my pc. I was hoping to find a solution for that on here. As far as to the comment, that you can't see what your filming: that will happen with any video device or camera that does not have an eye piece. Some are very hard to see, try shading it with your hand. The cd worked fine on my pc, it's just limited with much to buy. To sum it up, it's not bad if all you want is a camera that will transfer quickly to your pc, but as far as anything else, save the money and buy something expensive, you'll love yourself at the end.

I ordered mine online (Walmart) and my only real complaint is that they need to put on the package WHERE the software CD is located, cause I damn near cut right through it. Even with a knick from my blade, it loaded just fine, and the camera is cute, works great in outdoor and bright indoor lighting, but the flash is way strong and kinda washes out the picture. Other than that, Im happy!

I bought one of these on sale at Wal Mart and had to buy the extra card with it, since, it only takes TWO pictures otherwise----and NEVER got it to work right. Should have taken it back but there is some rule that you have to go back to the EXACT Wal Mart you got it from or they won't take it in the Metro Atlanta area. It was a long way away and I never went back. Sooooo now it's my birthday. That stupid camera has been sitting in a bag for two years and now....ho ho....I get another one!!!! It's just as bad as the first! And it's a combo problem of ALL the problems listed so, why list them again? Only, I'm thinking at first, it's because I have a Mac, a superior computer that the directions are only....ah, drag and click wherever....That's IT??? Four pages for Windows and less than a sentence for Mac users? What gives here? The software will not even load. Nothing works. I put in brand new batteries and it says they are LOW. Huh? They are BRAND NEW!! GREAT! So now I have two pieces of crap cameras. I'm going back to my old fashioned Pentex SuperME I bought twenty years ago and using FILM.....

Okay, so the flash is a little too bright, and if you dont have good lighting in the house you can barely see what you're taking a picture of.. BUT, it does take great outdoor pictures. I just bought this camera for $30 today at walmart, and i think its worth the money spent. You can't buy a $30 camera and expect it to work like you just paid $200+ on it. Reading the manual helps. =P

I like others bought this camera for my preteen kids expecting not fabulous pictures.. but pictures with decent quality for a $50 price tag ( + tax) weeeell the kids have now informed me that the camera's won't come on with new batteries.... I bought 2 since I have 2 kids
so from the looks of the other posts, their batteries went dead, and guess what.. they won't come back on!

Has anyone found a solution to this yet??
or is it a lost cause?

The software for this little camera freezes on xp. I can run it win98 compatiblity mode at its 50/50 if it will run. If it does run all i can do is download from the camera. All the other componets, run so slow as (I mean wait a few minutes after you click) its worthless. I quess ill take back to Wal-Mart. I throught the plastic wrap away, but it shouldn't mater it was destroyed on opening. I understand this is a cheap camera, but the shoddy software, the inablity to access the camera pictures directly via windows, and the non-existant information on their website realy makes this product a scam.

I bought one of these cameras to "tide me over" in a digital photography class... It has worked fine for me since summer of '05! If you can't get a memory card to work- DON'T jam the damned card all of the way into the slot!!! The only gripe that I have is that the card has to be continually checked if it gets moved around, it really needs a cover to protect it. I have a Canon PowerShot A520 that has a worse "shutter lag" than the Digital Concepts camera (unless it is set to "Kids & Pets"}.

I want to say Thanks to Kelly and some others for the links they took the time to come back and post. It helped me get the info I needed for a cheapie 2.1megapixel camera given to me with everything else missing. It is working like a charm and read the manual that you can download in PDF format for it and it explained everything I needed to know! Take the time to go there and maybe it can help out some of you with problems.
I am not complaining..i got it for nothing lol and it sure beats my old aol one I paid 100.00 for back when digital cameras were fairly new in concept. That camera truly sucks and still does picture wise for anyone but a novice user but it does still work!

The camera is wonderful.
If you READ the instructions it tells you what's wrong.
And EVERY digital camera eats batteries,
That's why you get rechargeable. DUH.

Thanks to Kelly for posting the links to Sakar. Unfortunatly the closest thing to support help was a short list of FAQ's. for those having SD card problems, I use a Sandisk and have no problems with that part. I didn't see anyone having the same problems that I AM having though. I have to remove my batteries after I am finished taking a picture because, if I leave them in, they are dead by the next day (yes I do turn it off and I use lithium energizers). After 2 years its automatic to unlatch the battery door and slide the camera in the bag. also the older the camera gets I notice that the pictures are getting more blurry, even taken with a tripod. Yes it's a "cheap" camera, but the technology isn't that complicated and surely shouldn't be degrading on this scale. i will keep looking for some kind of contact link for the company and if I find anything I will post it. Good Luck!

Ok, so, I got one of the Digital Concepts cameras (the one that Lina's holding in her pic looks like the same one), and I got the right SD memory card for it (the booklet said up to, but no more, than 1 GB), and I have all the software downloaded (did that even before I got the mem card), and when I tried to connect the cam to the comp to upload my pics, it was giving me the message that it's missing the SD card, even though I KNOW it's in there. I have some good pics that I don't want to lose on there, and I had hoped to get my pics downloaded tonight. (By the way, the 'code' it's giving me is "MSDC", or Missing SD Card, and yes, that's what it says in the booklet.) I admit, I was stupid and cheap, and got it for $60 at Wal-Mart, but luckily, now I have a good paying job, and I can hopefully get a good cam. My only question is, will my pics still be on my mem card if I put it in a different cam? I hope so!!! Otherwise, I'll probably be disposing of this cam, because I lost the receipt for it, and therefore I can't take it back to the store. (D'oh!)

I just bought the 98378. It cost me $20 at Wal-Mart. I left my digital camera at a friend's in another city and had to perform a work assignment with a digital cam. I thought this would be a quick fix. Obviously not. On the package, it said compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. I have Vista. I installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled MANY times, following the directions in the instruction manual to the T. But it wouldn't work. So finally I called tech support to see what was wrong. They said the software does not support Vista. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO FALSELY LABEL A PRODUCT WITH ONE THING IF IT'S A LIE? I'm so mad. Not only did I buy a piece of lying crap, but I can't upload my photos for work now either. I've tried going to Kinkos, etc. The only way to upload the photos is through the usb cord provided, but it wont work unless the software is downloaded and you have 2000 or XP. THIS IS ILLEGAL. According to the Federal Trade Commission, it's illegal for a labeling to be "unfair or deceptive advertising/practices/acts". This is clearly a legal issue. I support anyone who wants to push for a class action law suit.

I paid $60.00 for one of your 5.1 digital concepts camera and it is such a piece of crap that I was unable to get photos of my mother's 84th birthday party!! She may or may not have another birthday next year..so thanks for ruining my mother's birthday party!! You can bet I will never forgive your company for this boo boo!!!

You all are ripping everyone off...we should be able to file a lawsuit against the company...as one customer stated, the price shouldn't matter, it is supposed to work if you are paying for it, by the time we spend gas $, mental stress from the camera being a failure, fighting traffic to get back into the store to exchange the camera with your rude customer service reps today this camera is a complete and utter failure!! I would have thought you would have more pride than to rip people off but I guess that's why the richer get richer and the poorer get poorer because the apparently you all have no morals, when we think of your company liars and thieves is what comes to mind...we will be telling everyone what a disappointment this camera is!!

Bought this POS for granddaughter for BD. Card is/was FULL of vacation pictures of relative who is now deceased and lost all the pictures. Batteries died and can't get the thing to do anything anymore. Looks like this POS is just like the China toys. Not worth taking a chance on. I don't care if they are getting better every day or not. Got screwed on this thing and WON'T make that mistake again. Disappointed is no where close to how I feel. Next time, just knock on my door, stick a gun in my face and STEAL my money like every other crooked bastard does!

There is an odd setting in the 6.1 megapixel camera for turning on the flash. While the camera is in picture mode, you press the (up) ^ arrow key until a lightening bolt appears and leave the camera on that way until the flash charges. I had to call Sakar to get them to tell me how to turn it on. Their phone number for customer support is 877-397-8200

Thanks for the comments...I thought it was just me and my lack of tech smarts. I can take pics but they don't transfer to the card and if they do I can't review them on the camera. I tried to download photos to my computer and nothing happened and when I tried to picbrig or whatever they call it to my printer it froze up my printer. I spent an entire day taking pics of useless stuff just to see if I could get this worthless piece of junk to work. No luck. I should have invested a few more bucks and bought a good digital camera. I bought the 3.1 mega pixel digital concepts camera at a second hand store for $2.15. It was origanally priced at $4.25 but they had a half price sale. I use a card reader instead of the hassel of the software included. This camera would work well for a camera that you might carry in the car for those moments when you need to take that once in a lifetime picture of A UFO or Big Foot, But I would never buy it for a present for someone that doesn't take dissappointment well. Even at $2.15 Iwould consider this an OK deal

Don't give up quite so easily. When I first started using this I didn't think it was going to be all that great, then, today, when I had some time on my hands I started playing around with the settings. Now it works perfectly. It's a cheap camera, so it may take a little effort. Don't use flash unless you are in the dark, that's easy. Change the settings on the exposure and your pictures won't come out black. Take the batteries out when you aren't using it. These are basic things that you can do with any electronics.

WOW! I thought it was something I was doing. I'm a teen so i know everything there is 2 know about technology. I got this camera for Christmas and was so happy until I took pics. I played around with it and I still can't get it to act right and on top of that my flash stop working. Luckily my mom got it on "Black Friday" but hopefully Wal-Mart would take it back and after I save up some more money I can get the camera that will work properly like a Sony or something. The really bad thing is, the 30 year old black and white cameras that we use in photography take better pictures than this camera.

See the post above with the links in it. It may help. Otherwise, I have had no problems that I did not solve through trial and error. Oh yeah, rechargable batteries are great for any digital camera.

Mon, 11 Feb 2008 03:43:18 +0000

Well I have the 6.1 digital camera by Digital Concepts aka Sakar International. I lost the CD as well before I could get it installed on my new computer... But judging from the reviews here, I'm happy I did! I'm just going to take it to Wal-Mart and have them put it on a CDROM for me. I do not agree that if you pay the amount some of you paid you should get all problems. But I do have to say that what I paid I recieved what I paid for. It is truly difficult to get a decent picture out of it in low lighting, especially with the flash (which blinds everything out). And it does have a time delay. But I've had it for like 8 months at least and mine still works even after the abuse of my step mother beating it! LOL! And you get used to the quirks. I'm not sure how the photos are going to look on my comp yet. But I'm sure it's not anything I can't work on. And they look fine on my screen. You just have to be a positive person like me to have the thing.

P.S. Be sure to take the batteries out between use! It'll suck them down very quickly otherwise!

It's likely because the camera uses SDRAM rather than flash memory. See this article: "SDRAM vs. Flash Memory"

I think this camera is o.k. I bout this 3.1 mega pixel camera at Wal-Mart 2 years ago. Its fine, But in low light situations, it does suck! Im a photographer & I broke my $500.00 Canon camera in a high rise building & found this for $40.00. I used it at an event the next day in Louisville. The battery life sucks but I try to keep the battery door open when im not using it becouse ive notice that it dranes the tripple AAA batteries when its off!

Got it on a lark January at an Albertsons closing. I got it for $5, down from 19.95 regular price. I was curious because of the lack of tech details on the packaging. It does use some kind of volatile RAM (not Flash) I tooka few pics and took out the battery. That cleared the pics. I'll use it as a webcam when I set up a computer at a convention - it will NOT likely get stolen because it's useless as a camera.

I suggest you try the Sakar website, listed as follows:
http://www.sakar.com/

I located the drivers, accessories, and manuals for the very camera I purchased at Wal-Mart. So far the camera has performed well enough though I suggest going for the 5.1 megapixel since it performs better than the 3.1. You get what you pay for; so far I'm getting what I expected for the money and it's fine enough for me.

So all the Pictures shown here, are the worst I have ever seen. But you get what you deserve.

I bought this camera as a gift, but was a little skeptical on how it actually worked. I decided to open it and try it before giving it to my wife's nephew as a present(toy). I have to say that my hunch was right, it is a crappy camera(even it considered a as toy). I'll have to take it back and maybe by him a RC car or something else. What was I thinking?
For forty dollars you can't really buy a digital camera that can produce the images of an older 35mm film camera. My hope was that buy this day and age 2008, technology would have advanced enough to do that.
Wishful thinking!
I'm not going knock the company because as far a I know, there is no major manufacturers such as Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Olympus, Pentax, Sony etc. offering low end cameras. I guess this is the best that Digital Concepts can do for $40, but their best isn't good enough for me to accept. I'll have to return it.

Ohh man. This camera sucks sooo bad! We were all excited cause this was our first digital cam but in like 3 days the batteries just died on us. After replacing them like twice the frikkin screen became corrupt and ever since we have been unable to fix that(anyone know how to fix this u tell me!!!). We got it at walmart but we had lost the reciept-that was my fault- but nonetheless this cam sucks major @ss. I hate Sakars customer service as well. After calling three times and going through the waiting"let us transfer you" more waiting"let us transfer you" cycle I wrote them a pretty graphic email. All I got back was an email telling me they wanna look at it...for a price-$50-NOT including shipping and handeling. Do yourself a favor-DONT BUY IT!!

why even make a camera to be sold in stores if it is gonna suck this bad and make you look like a douche...i mean honestly! the makers of this dumbass camera need to get on her and see every complaint and give us our fucking money back...everytime you use the flash it makes everyones face turn bright white, where you cant see their eyes, mouth, or anything...i mean get a life and spend yer time making something that fucking works you cheap batches! holla!

well i bought this 30 dollar cam. and i think it works just fine. sure the quality on the cam itself isnt the best but i bought a memory card and uploaded the pix on my comp. and the quality was awesome. i think you guys were expecting a lot from something that was sold cheap. the only problem i have with mind it that theres a white dot on the screen after taking a pic. so thats the only thing i have.

Just so you all know... Wa|-Mart imports a large percentage of their retail sales products almost exclusively from China. In the last 25 years, the corporate giant has forced almost every USA manufacturer out of business by DEMANDING lower prices on their goods. Ask anyone who used to work for the usa based company they bought their pillows from who filed for bankruptcy a few years ago. Or ask anyone who worked for the usa based company who made bicycles for them. The corporate giant has forced them all out of business opting to buy goods from the Chinese for 1/3 the price of USA based manufacturers.

The Chinese people work cheaper than North Americans but that's ok as they can live cheaper in their country.

They (the Chinese) are also pretty smart people. They choose to make thousands of electronic products for Wa|-Mart (and other buyers worldwide) but they save millions each year by NOT offering free website tech-support for those products. They do this because they cannot afford to do so. And they always do their homework when they choose a name for their product. Example: type: "Digital Concepts" into a Google search engine box and you will get 3.8 million hits. It would take weeks to look through all those results and you would most likely only find a site with no support.

Do you really need cheap things like this that will break easily?

I got the tiny, keychain version of this brand camera for a buck 50 at albertsons. I plugged it in to my computer with the USB, and it works and stuff, but the webcam is confusing! Can you make the webcam so that it's like you are sitting with them so i can see the other person? or do i have to send it in an email? If you have any answers, please email me at [email protected] I'd really appreciate it so I can chat with people.

Answer me please,
Jessie

It is a super-crappy camera. I especially like how when you open it there's a little note in broken English that says: "Do nut take Camera back to the store!" It's Yeah, what every you say China. Clearly this Suggests that they have been getting too many complaints already and any more will force them to pull the camera and only deliver a quality product.

I was hoping that I could find a hack that would make it work with a Mac. I bet there is some clever person out there who has figured that out. I know the damn thing has some memory, but it is clearly not utilized efficiently.

ONE important suggestion, take the battery out when you are not using it - otherwise it will just run down.

The small black digital camera that kayla got from her friend without a disc I got for christmas. I got a disc, but the installation requires you to pick the camera that you bought....BUT GET THIS.....there wasn't an option for the camera that I had......its WORTHLESS....We should all sue that stupid company for selling faulty products. Whether it's cheap or expensive, the merchandise IS required by law to function properly.

I bought the camera and it also did not come with the software the instruction book talked about. So, with no driver and no software, it doesn't matter if you can read directions or not, it clearly came without all that is required for the camera to operate. I e-mailed the company at: [email protected] and asked for the software and driver to be mailed to my home. We'll see if I get a reply. Good luck people and angry teenagers, be gentle on the parents. It may not be just a matter of reading directions here if the product doesn't come with all that is needed for the device to operate.

okay, i brought this "Digital Concepts" camera at Wal-mart for $34.99...as alot of people on here say, this canera is a waste of money...
okey, when ever i try to turn the camera on, it goes to this screen nd says USB, and the screen freezes so i have to take all the batteries out just to turn the camera off!
and when i first got the camer5a, and it went to the screen that said USB i hooked the camera up to the camputer, and it said that there were no pictures on the camera!!
And when i first bought it, there was a little yellow paper that said " If you are having problems with this camera, Do not return to the store...."
and once i read that, i knew that this camera was a piece of TRASH!

what a cheap camera!

we should like sue this company, their just trying to get our mopney for sum cheap shit!

hey! This camera is pretty nice. I got one for xmas, but that one was crappy. I got the same brand, for a bit higher price and the quality is A LOT better. I have a video camera one. It's really nice. For me the pictures come out A LOT brighter than they look like. It's just a really nice, small camcorder. I mean, it's a good start-off for kids like me. I mean, yeah it's cheap, great. But a great start-off for kids like myself. So go have fun with ur cameras!! So the preson who posted that little thing up there about more info, depending if ur neice is like 11 or 12 or even 9, she'll like it. But if she's a teenager and is into more advanced stuff (like most of the people up there =P ) then she might not like it.

I would everyone to avoid buying any product from Sakar
International!!!! I have sent them numerous e-mails complaining about a product I purchased. They have repeatedly promised and lied that they were sending a replacement, and given many, many excuses and futher promises that the item was on it's way. I thing this company lies, and makes promises that it has no intention
to keep. I would'nt purchas another item from them if they

I bought a DC camera from a guy at the bar for ten bucks.

I should have had a couple more beer instead. Thought it would be handy as a pocket camera and not risk losing my Canon SD1100

I got the 6.1mp for my 9 y.o. daughter and it is just enough for what my daughter needs without her having to break my Sony digital camera and I only paid $20 for it at a pawn shop. She loves it. If you go to their website http://www.sakar.com/ like I did and have a look around I'm sure you will find any info you need. It is true though: you do get what you pay for and if you are going to make an investment into anything electronic you should do your homework before buying.

Tue, 01 Sep 2009 15:39:19 +0000

I just wanted to say that I got through to the company and they are replacing my camera at their expense because there is a default with the camera. There is no issues on my end it is a faulty camera. However, if the new that I receive is a piece of crap I will be sure not to get another one.

To those people that think that others are idiots for complaining why the hell do you read the complaints if your so smart. Don't criticize others because you don't have a piece of crap. Some of us don't have the money or the means to pay for fancy ass cameras nor should we have to just to get descent pictures. As far as the disposable cameras are concerned I have bought those in the past, but not only do you have to buy the camera, but then you have to send them in to get them developed. By the time you do that it costs as much as a digital camera and not nearly as convenient.

In closing, if you are so damn special to have gotten or bought a nice camera for hundreds of dollars don't read the damn complaints. Get a life and leave others alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I know this isn't the greatest camera in the world, but I bought mine for $21 on E-bay and I think it is fantastic. It sucks I have to take pictures in the light only. But I haven't had any problems taking pictures during the day or in a well lighted area. I got a usb cord and the software to upload pictures and videos to my computer. And I absolutely love the preview screen. It would be nice to be able to use the camera while it was plugged in to the computer, but that's not a major problem. It only goes through batteries quickly if you're using the crap out of it. I can take great pics and the software does all I need it to. I do all of my E-bay listings with this camera now. I won't say anything bad about any of the other poster's comments because that is wrong and it makes us no better than the Youtube idiots. I just wish you all the best of luck. All I can say is I am satisfied with my investment. For those of you who aren't sure whether you should bother with DC, let me put it to you this way: if you care about your pictures, get a real camera. This is not a real camera. This is a cheaper version of a real camera. If you just want a device to play around, this is the perfect camera for you. Check it out! I think it works great!

SO-everyone thinks their camera sucks, but i have to say, i like mine....there are a few things i dont like though!! 1.it doesnt take goodpics inside with just light..u need sunlight, or it will make it look orange/red! 2.the flash totally makes everything white 2. i cant get the sound to work for the video, if u know how to make it..let me know!! 3. it took me forever to find how to delete cuz u have 2 push like 6 buttons-the menu,go over to the x, and then push delete, then yes..too complicated!! and 4. u cant charge it, u have to use batteries, and it totally uses them up, so i have rechargables!! oh, and my screen broke, so it had a shater mark going down it, and then 1 of my friends said to just take that off, so i did, so now all i have is a soft scrren, and i have to put the plasticcovering that comes on the camera screen, on it, so i dont totally ruin the camera....BUT, other than that, it WORKS GREAT..LOVE IT..AND IT TAKES GREAT PICS, OUTDIE, AND WHEN THERE IS GOOD LIGHT....HERES SUM PICS THAT I TOOK WITH MY CAMERA!

Personally I have had this camera for 3 years and it works great.I use it for e bay and craigs list postings, but not for anything detailed like coins and such..but as a just common picture type budget camera..I have had no problems. For those of you that cant seem to get it to work at all, I suggest using the basic 10% rule to operate it. Which means , You need to be 10% smarter than the item you are working on, LOL..I have no problems at all with mine..Most of the people that are saying they are having problems with theirs, I bet can't really read the manual, if they know one even exists, for I see thier spelling is about 98% incorrect, lol..I am no english or spelling expert myself, and do occasionally mispell a word or so, but geezz...Anyone else that can use this camera successfully such as I have, notice that most the people having complete failure with it are mispelling 85% of the words they type..How can you operate something if you can't read the manual..AWW..AN IDEA HITS ME FROM NOWHERE!!!..Start printing manuals with stick figures instead like comic books!!..Yeaaa..gonna make my 1st million this year!!

Cripes I did not inquire about a digital throway, 1st if battery is dead ,simply replace them.My Kodak Easysharec182 did not come cheap. It takes great photo's inside and out .U can buy memory cards at any drugstore or other store and can swap out w/1 finger tip.remove card ,use adapter to put on ur computer. So if u don't know how to see date & time ,don't run down the camera. Get directions ,insted of making my bllod pressure rise. have a good DAY/

Well, I have to say, this is quite a situation. I went to Sakar, put in the name of the camera, it isn't listed anywhere on the site, and when I tried to gt to the drives, they got me pages telling me they weren't there. It looks like Sakar has pulled them from their site. Take them back to Walmart, if they get enough returns they will take care of Sakar, no law suit necessary.

Debra
Wed, 28 Dec 2011 23:25:23 +0300

I've been following this thread for a while and thought I'd add my comments.

I've got four Sakar built cameras: I have two 98379 models (a Sakar brand, which I got as a gift in 2007, and an Aries brand which I bought a few years ago for $20 -- they're the same camera, except the Aries has a smaller lens opening and won't take low light photos as well); I also have a Sakar made, Digital Concepts 75379 model (with flash), which cost me $20. These three cameras are VGA snapshot cameras -- resolution of 640x480.

I also just got a Sakar made, Vivitar brand 2.1 megapixel model.

First, the Vivitar "25", a 2.1 megapixel camera that cost me $20. I bought one and it took crappy, orangish looking photos indoors. Then the on/off button quit working. Obviously a glitch at the factory.

I went to exchange it, and I looked over the other Vivitar 25's on the rack and noticed one had a plastic bubble over the lens, and the lens itself was bigger. The others all had smaller lens openings with no plastic bubble. I grabbed the one with the larger lens opening and plastic bubble over the lens, and took it home and it has been taking good indoor pictures, the lighting looks natural and it will take lower light pictures o.k -- completely unlike the one I took back. But they're the same exact model, in the same packaging, same case, etc.

It may be a fluke, but I think it may be the lens opening.

My Sakar 98379 VGA cameras have served me well over the years. I am on a limited budget and if it weren't for these snapshot cameras I would have had no pictures whatsoever of my cat, kitten, dog, etc., because I simply can't afford an expensive camera and can't afford all the processing costs of film.

The 75379 model Digital Concepts VGA flash camera won't take lower light photos, but takes decent shots outside, and batteries last longer (just an LCD readout on the back of the camera. it's simple to use, and the color saturation is better than the 98379s. Photos of flowers and the sky and sunsets all look impressive for a VGA snapshot camera. The flash is only good at short distances with soft tape placed over the flash itself to soften and diffuse it. I never use the flash anyway.

I have probably taken thousands of snapshots with these VGA cameras and they have probably saved me thousands of dollars in processing.

Make sure you get the CD out of the packaging and install it on your computer, and also read the instructions. The cameras simply will not load photos onto your computer without the software that comes with it.

Also -- these cameras are SNAPSHOT cameras, they're not meant for exquisite, high level photography. Some photos will look grainier than others, depending on lighting. They are the modern digital equivalent of the Kodak Brownie or Kodak 104 Instamatic. The photo quality isn't much different than what you get from a disposable film camera, only you can keep using the camera over and over and you get the photos a lot quicker and more cheaply.

And sure, they may not take as high quality pics as an smartphone, but then you don't have to pay $150 a month to use these cameras, either.

Excerpt: The problem I have had so far is connecting it to my PC and getting the MSDC message on the camera. I have taken picutres but have not been able to transfer them yet. This is the 4.1 camera. My specs are Windows XP 64bit. That is part of the problem with the posts on here is that none is mentioning . . .
