Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 Disassembly

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 and Leica D-Lux 2 are identical cameras.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 casing is comprised of four pieces: front casing, back casing, top casing, and the lens casing.

Removing the Back Casing

The back casing has a 2.5" LCD and a variety of controls. To remove the back casing, remove all of the tiny machine screws surrounding the back casing. There is one screw on the left side, one screw on the bottom, and two screws on the right side of the camera.

Once the screws are removed, carefully lift the back casing away from the digital camera. But don't tug too hard and too far. There are two surface mount ribbon cables that interfaces between the back casing and the circuit board, see photo below. Detach the two ribbon cable by following the "How-To Detach Surface Mount Ribbon Cables" article.
