No Signal on TV with VuPoint DVC-ST100-VP Digital Video Converter Box

We've purchased this for my mother for Christmas as she has many many video tapes and wanted to convert them. But when we hooked it up we get a No Signal! in red across the tv. How do I get rid of that so it's actually recording to my card?
