SDRAM vs. Flash Memory

Just interested in the rest of the story...

Yes,Flash type memory have an edge in photography based applications.The only disadvantage of Flash is that it has to be erased in blocks,not bit or word erase.Also flash memory type wear out after some time.So it is not very suitable when used in computers.

My $14.99 Digigr8 thumb cam just has SDRAM memory without any flash memory. It doesn't lose pictures stored in SDRAM even when turned off for several hours. I am not sure whether processor is in a sleep mode and wakes every so often, but have noticed that SDRAM can last for several minutes after losing power on other cameras.

Very useful information! Forgive me if I am asking a very stupid question but if you have an SDRAM camera isn't the obvious answer to make sure all images are stored on the memeory card rather than the camera itself?

Absolutely. I personally think you should use a memory card, rather than the internal memory, no matter what. But most SDRAM digital cameras do not come with memory card slots. I suggest staying away from these kind of digital cameras.
