Canon Announces Last PowerShot SDK (3281-3360)

Effective November 12, 2008, general distribution of Canon PowerShot RemoteCapture Software Development Kit (PS-Rec SDK) Version 1.1.0e for Windows XP will begin for registered developers residing in our sales area. This new SDK supports the PowerShot G10, G9, G7, S5 IS, S3 IS, S80, SX110 IS, SX100 IS, A640 and A620 models exclusively. The PowerShot G10 and SX110 IS models are newly added.

PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0e is not compatible with other USB PowerShot digital cameras including any cameras released on or before 6/30/2005. Please continue to use CD-SDK 7.3 for those models. For more information, be sure to read the PowerShot RemoteCapture Software Development Kit Software Developer’s Guide document bundled with the PS-Rec SDK 1.1.0e download.

Even though you are a registered developer, it is still necessary to submit a new SDK application in order to confirm your acceptance of the SDK License Agreement for PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0e. To submit a new SDK application, please visit our website at:

Canon Digital Camera Software Developers Kit General Information

(PLEASE NOTE: PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0e will be available as of November 12, 2008, but the SDK general information page on our consumer web site may not be updated for a few days. Do not let this stop you from submitting a new SDK application if you wish to download PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0e.)

Thanks for developing software for Canon Digital Cameras!

Best Regards,

Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Digital Camera Developer Relations Program

Attention PowerShot Software Developers:

Please be advised of the following information:

* PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0e is the final edition of the PowerShot SDK. It supports Windows XP only. It is not Vista-compatible. It is not Mac OS-compatible. It is not Linux-compatible. No PowerShot cameras released after 2008 will be SDK-supported.

* SDK support for EOS Digital SLRs will continue, and is already available for Vista and Mac OS X.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

- When will the last PowerShot cameras that are supported by the SDK be released?

The last PowerShot cameras (G10 and SX110 IS) to be supported by Canon digital camera SDK have already been announced and released as of October, 2008.

- Do you have a projection on when the last camera that is supported by the SDK will no longer be available for sale?

We cannot be specific, but we expect that the PowerShot G10 and SX110 IS models will continue to be sold at least through the 1st Half of 2009. Exact sales dates are subject to change without notice.

- Is it quite certain that Canon will no longer offer SDK support for the PowerShot series by end of 2008?

It is quite certain that Canon will no longer update its SDKs for PowerShot cameras after 2008. However, we will continue to post the existing PowerShot SDKs.

Try emailing support for help and be prepared to wait for ever to get a reply...Very poor support. Nikon anyone?

we are NOT able to download the SDK from Canon's site and we do not get any reply to our emails. We get this error when we click on the SDK:

Error 500
HTTP Web Server: Illegal Arguments Exception

We sent emails to Canon but we get no reply and the issue is still there. This is very frustrating and poor service from this company.
