Canon to develop fuel cells for printers, cameras (Reuters)

Canon Inc unveils its new EOS Kiss Digital N camera at the Photo Imaging Expo 2005 in Tokyo March 17, 2005. Japan's Canon Inc. said on Tuesday it has developed tiny fuel cells that it hopes will start replacing conventional batteries to power some of its digital cameras and printers in three years. (Yuriko Nakao/Reuters)Reuters - Japan's Canon Inc. (7751.T) said on Tuesday it has developed tiny fuel cells that it hopes will start replacing conventional batteries to power some of its digital cameras and printers in three years.

Reading the title and excerpt of this news article got me excited. Newer battery technologies generally have longer life than today's standards, allowing us to shoot photos in the field all day. But the more I read, the more nervous I got. The article mentioned that the "Canon is working on a system that supplies hydrogen directly from a refillable cartridge". The troublesome and messiness from refilling my butane tools comes to mind. Worse, do we have to buy these battery cartridges like inkjet printer cartridges? The article is rather broad and doesn't go into anything specific, so I'm forced to wonder what this really means.
