I read your review on camerahacker.com about the Sony VAD-PEA Lens Adapter and using Tiffen 30mm-37mm step-up rings.

my question to you is can I use this adapter and the rings to make the Peleng 8mm f3.5 Fisheye Lens work on the sony camera.

I HAVE A DSC-P72

The VAD-PEB won't fit directly on the P72/92. The P73/93 has a new bayonet interface, whereas teh P72/92 uses a wrap-around clip-on adapter.

But you know, it might not be so hard to glue the VAD-PEB onto the P72/92 camera. 5 minute general purpose Epoxy will probably work. Or you might even go further and carve the bayonet notches. Sounds like a very cool hack now that we are talking about it. 8-)

You will be able to use any accessory lens with 30mm mounting threads. You can even use accessory lenses with larger mounting threads with step-up rings.

You can not use 30mm SLR lenses, because SLR lenses have proprietary bayonet mounts for specific cameras. The 30mm in this case does not reflect mounting thread, but reflects the focal length of the lens.

So, if one wants to use a wide-angle or a telephoto add-on lens with the Sony DSC-P150/200 we will have to live with the fact that this plastic adaptor will always have to be sticking out, yes? There is no wide-angle lens presently that can attach to these cameras and still have the shutter door close normally on power-down?

BTW Mr. Cheng, it took 30 min. of searching before I was able to get to your very informative site regarding these camera accessories...thanks!!

Yes. The adapter will always stick out. And so will the accessory lens.

I have been looking everywhere for one of these lens adapters, and apparently they no longer make them. Is there any other lens adapter that will work on a DSC-P92?

Hi Sarah,

It appears that the VAD-PEA lens adapter is now extinct. Even the imitations ones are no longer sold on E-bay.

The good news is that you can still make one yourself by following the instructions in the "Hacking Digital Cameras" book. Chapter 8: "Making an Accessory Lens Adapter" uses the Sony DSC-P92 as an example.

I want a VAD-PEA soooo Bad... I have a DSC-P92 camera, and just purchased the VCL-CH2630 (Telephoto lens)... It advertised that it was compatible with my camera... Well, I suppose it is, but only with the VAD-PEA! I have just found out that SONY has discontinued the VAD-PEA! I've bid on one on EBAY for 3x what it is worth... but the Telephoto is a $100 of useless junk without the VAD-PEA. I just want to cry!

I do have to say that I'm quite upset with SONY... they are still advertising the VCL-CH2630 (Telephoto lens)as being compatible with the P92, but you can't purchase the one and only item that makes it compatible... Isn't this called False Advertising?? Wouldn't that be considered Illegal??

View this link…. Check out the compatibility tab:

hVCL-DH2630 30mm High Grade 2.6X Super Telephoto Conversion Lens

Do you have any ideas… or Know someone who would be willing to sell one?

Thanks…

I've been using the Sony DSC-P92 a lot lately and just found out about this adapter because of you. So cool! Thanks for keeping these reviews up for all this time. Websites like this remind me of why I used to love the internet. Full of passion, not just for making money. :)
