High ratio Sigma APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens

Sigma APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM is an ultra telephoto, high ratio, moderately fast zoom lens with focal length ranging from 150mm to 500mm, minimum aperture of F22 and maximum aperture ranging from F5 to 6.3. This telephoto range helps photographers in short perspective by bringing the subject closer. Lens has optical stabilization of Sigma original standard that is capable to produce 4 stops faster shutter speed and is good for low light handheld photography. Lens is compatible with full DSLR frame cameras and APS-C sensors. Along with APS-C, lens capability on most of the cameras is enhanced to 180mm to 600mm of focal length.

Available in Nikon, Canon, Sigma, Minolta, Sony and Pentax mounts, Sigma APO has effective stabilization and wonderful finish that makes it ideal for wildlife, landscape and sports photography. It has 21 lens elements in 15 groups that include three SLD elements and there are 9 numbers of aperture diaphragm blades. The SLD lens elements are good enough to provide necessary sharpness for entire zoom range and the desired color correction by reducing chromatic aberration. All lens elements are suitably coated with multi layers to reduce ghosting and flare.

Sigma APO also has rear focus system to reduce aberration fluctuation in focusing that along with SLD lens ensures high quality outputs. Lens focusing system is HSM, Hyper Sonic Motor, along with manual focus override. HSM provides high speed auto focus and is silent in its operation. Minimum focal distance supported by this Sigma lens is 220cms with maximum reproduction ratio of 1:5.2 and magnification up to 4.2. Lens accepts filters of 86mm size and has angle of viewing ranging from 16.4 degrees to 5 degrees.

Sigma APO 150-500mm is compact in construction, weighs 1.91 Kg and has dimensions of 3.7 inches x 9.9 inches. It is compatible with APO Tele converters and the combination can produce up to 210mm-700mm with 1.4x converter and 300mm-1000mm of focal range with 2x converter. Lens is supplied with lens hood, carrying case, shoulder strap and removable tripod socket.

On negative side, Sigma APO F5-6.3 OS HSM does not work so well in bad light situations and its auto focus does not work in case camera body is unable to support its HSM motor. Overall, at available price of about 1500 dollars, this Sigma APO 150-500mm DG lens is good for nature loving photographers, wildlife and sports shooting and for users requiring long distance shots.
