Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM is a well built lens in Ultra wide prime category having focal length of 20mm with maximum aperture at F2.8 and minimum aperture at F22. This versatility of zoom capability helps it to produce nice images with sufficient coverage. Users can capture better picture contents by increasing focus area through enhancing depth of field and viewing angle settings. This wide angle lens is good for all kinds of indoor, landscape and architecture photography.

Canon EF 20mm has eleven lens elements in nine groups and five numbers of blades. It has both manual and auto focus type with rear focusing mechanism. The AF system uses ring type Ultra Sonic Motor that is fast and silent in its operation. Lens supports closest focus length of 20mm and minimum focal range of 9.8 inches. There is an option to expand the distance between background and foreground that creates uniqueness. Lens is capable to produce sharp images at all distances.

Canon EF 20mm has simple construction with only one AF/MF control switch and reasonable depth of field in distance window. Lens comes with magnifying power of 0.14 and accepts filter size of 72mm. Angle of view supported by camera on Full Frame is 94 degrees diagonally, 84 degrees horizontally and 62 degrees vertically. Since focus operation does not require lens extension or rotation, lens is good when used with filters.

Optical quality of this Canon lens is very good with manageable vignetting and reasonable chromatic aberration. Lens is quite good when used on Full Frame cameras with consistent performance on all aperture settings. Barrel effect produced is -2.13 while color quality is excellent matching Canon standards.

Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 has nice build with metal mount and hard wearing black finish. It is 450g in weight that makes it easier to handle and carry. Lens has length of 3 inches, diameter of 3.1 inches and an option for bayonet style hood is also there. On negative part, it lacks in corner sharpness and contrast and there are flare issues. Lens also does not work best with cropped sensors. Distortion level is comparatively more and its focus ring is bit stiffer. Lens is also not supplied with any lens hood.

Overall, at available price of about $460, Canon EF 20mm is a good buy since it is an ultra wide angle, compact and easy to use lens that produces nice outputs and comes with limited warranty of one year.
