GretagMacbeth ColorChecker Charts

I've read your review on GretagMacbeth Mini ColorChecker Charts. I wonder that, Do GretagMacbeth ColorChecker Charts 8" x 11.5" made of the same material as the mini one? And are they water resistant?, I guess no. I want to take photo outdoor, but I'm afraid that the mini GretagMacbeth ColorChecker Charts may be too small for portrait or landscape photo, as you mentioned. Please advice which one I should buy.

I found in amazon that there are 2 products listed for GretagMacbeth ColorChecker Charts: Gretag Macbeth Color Checker Exposure Aid, 8 1/2" x 11" and Gretag Macbeth ColorChecker Chart, 8.5" x 11.5" . Both are the same price. I'm quite confuse. Do you know the different between the two?

And do you hear about QPCard? It's the gray + black + white card. If you experienced using this card or have some info, please let me know. I'm quite interested in this card because of it's cheap price (about 13$).

Thank you in advance for your advice

Iyares, the larger ColorChecker chart is made out of much better material. (I'll have to find some time and give it a thorough review.) I don't know its composition, but it is like rubber/plastic. It is resistant. However, I would advice against getting anything on the charts, as contamination could change its reflectivity.

I don't know the difference between these two charts you found on Adorama:

  • Gretag Macbeth Color Checker Exposure Aid, 8 1/2" x 11"
  • Gretag Macbeth ColorChecker Chart, 8.5" x 11.5"

As far as I know, there is only one version of the bigger 24-color ColorChecker chart: 8-1/2"x11". The pictures that Adorama provided looks exactly the same. Perhaps it's an inventory mistake.

I have never seen the QPCard before. It sounds like the card that I got from the back of "Spring Into Digital Photography and "The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers" (see photos of the cards in these links). I'll take a look at the QPCard when I have time.

Dear Chieh,

Thank you for your prompt reply. Your suggestion help me a lot in making decision to by the larger ColorChecker chart.

I follow your link, but QPcard is different. It has black gray and white block. You can find more information about QPCard at www.qpcard.com.

Thank you again

The links to the training videos are broken, because GretagMacbeth was acquired by Xrite/Munsell. Because it's all under xrite.com, the links have changed. The training videos can now be found at: Product Solutions
