converting film Leica M2 to digital?

Hi,
first of all , love your book. Now, is there a digicam with a larger sized image sensor that I might be able to canibalize and adapt to the back of a leica M2 film camera? the back of the leica is removable as is the base. it would be ideal if the camera sensor was attached to its electronics by a longer flex cable...I own a canon eos D30 and an Eos 300d that I would sacrifice to this...there is great interest out there in the Leica user community for a way to do this...any suggestions?
thanks
George
