DSC-P93 not recognized by OS

I have had a DSC-P93 for over 2 years now.
Sadly, USB plug&play has turned into plug&pray lately as Windows is not longer able to recognize the camera.
The OS is already discarded as the source of error: I have tried every single combination of drivers & windows versions. I have also tried with gtkam + gphoto2 under linux but I still get nothing.
The memory stick is fine, I've been able to download my pictures using a card reader and the camera works perfectly.
The only things left are the cable and a failure in the USB interface, I've also taken apart the cam and checked the fuses inside and they look OK.
If anybody knows a hack for this pleeeease let me know!!! Thanks

Marcos,

Have you tried a different USB cable to make sure the USB cable is ok?

Sorry for taking too long... Yes, I have tried with a different cable and still nothing. I just bought an MS USB adaptor to download the pictures and that has solved the main problem but I still would like to be able to do that with the camera and cable only. Thanks.
