Can't make work remote triger for a Kodak C713

I try to make a remote cable trigger for a kodak Easyshare C713. the "female" plug fits fine in the camara's body (on a side, next to the usb port). I use a long cable whit a Canon remote swicht; i need a minimum long from my head to the hand ( i will use on a skydiving helmet). once evething's set, don't work constantly; just can take 2-3 shoots and the camera turns off. it was a 3 point plug (prefocus and shoot) assemble.
I take this to a friend that's a camera tech. He told me that looks like the camera don't have "enough power" to the extra wire to my hand trigger;this cameras consumes almost the exact amount of power... and part of this "losses" in the travel to the hand's swicht. He make several tests whit others cables and swichtes (don't know excatly which ones) wihtout results.

take in mind the final use of this hack (rougt/reiable system for skydiving) what can i make? anybody 've tried in this model before? i need a practical solution.

i will apreciate any comment.

I forgotten: we ( my friend and i) consider to take out the original botton swicht of the camera and put wiht a extension to the hand; but is inpractical: there's a many lines/cables (Ic's) to conect it. Can be broken easily.

Consider using a relay. that would make the camera circuit independent from your circuit. Then use a mechanical switch or a external power source to power the relay. My Hacking Digital Camera book has an example of using a relay in a timer trigger circuit.
