An Efficacious Magic Lantern Firmware for Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Canon's EOS 5D Mark II was the first with digital camera with a compact body without having an integral vertical grip. The 5 D Mark II cameras have certain special features which facilitates the photographers to capture high quality images in terms resolution and clarity. It comes with some excellent features like 21 megapixels, 1080p video, 3 inch VGA LCD screen, live view mode and a higher capacity and long life battery. If the users feel these features need to be enhanced, then they can opt for Magic Lantern Firmware.

Magic Lantern, an open platform that has been developing the enhancements for the Canon 5D Mark II full frame digital SLR. Magic Lantern is a canon's firmware that helps in making the 5D Mark II into the 5D Mark Free. This Magic Lantern is an open GPL framework, which is meant for the development of the extensions to the official software, specially designed to meet the requirements of film making needs. Adding this firmware to existing software does not replace or remove the existing firmware, but instead of that, it runs along with the existing firmware. Installation of this firmware can be done by just power cycling the camera and then rebooting to the stock Canon firmware.

This firmware includes some new features to the existing ones, like onscreen audio meters and zebra stripes. It also disables the audio AGC. It facilitates the users with a wide range of lenses that is compatible with the EF mount. By using the Magic Lantern and converting the 5D Mark II into a 5D Mark Free brings some of the video enhancements such as the on-screen audio meters, manual gain control options, but with no AGC, video peaking through Zebra stripes and Custom Crop marks for ratios of 16:9, 2.35:1, 4:3 and many other formats. It also enhances the control of focus and bracketing.
