Some thoughts on the Sigma 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical zoom lens

This is the lens I got with my Canon Rebel G. I got cheated when I purchased the kit. The sales person conned me into getting this lens over the Canon 35-80mm for a much higher price. And he give me the older version, rather than the new macro version. But that's another story.

Not that I dislike this lens. On the contrarry I enjoyed using this lens more than I think I would have with the Canon 35-80mm lens. In fact, I feel I have gotten more "better" picture then the other five lenses I have now. And I don't even have a hood for this lens. Somehow, I feel my photographic skill is staggering after I gotten these new lenses.

The zoom ring on this lens is extremely smooth. There is no zoom creep on this lens. It is also very small and extremely light weight. It is about the same weight as my Canon Rebel G. The focus ring, on the other hand, felt loose. I can't say it is smooth, but it worked flowlessly. It has a 55mm rotating front.

I see the new macro version being sold for under $100. It is a very affordable zoom lens for everyday purpose.
