Hi, I just want to share my experience with 420 EX. I'm not that much an expert though... Anyway, in my experience, what 420 ex lack is the manual control.

I have a 420EX, I've used it for weddings with the 17-85 and 24-70 lenses and a Fong diffuser, it works fine for shots indoors with a white ceiling or wall
