My Sony DCR-SR12 camcorder also had this problem with E61:10 error code where the lens zoom gear assembly got stuck - gave it a few gentle but firm whacks with 2 fingers and the problem is gone!

I took my DCR-DVD508 to BestBuy and they said it would be $90 just to send it in to Sony for repair. I read this post and smacked it on my desk once. I is now working perfectly. Thanks.
