Why does my Canon Hi-8 camcorder only shows noise on two of my tapes?

Hi

Been to your website and find it very informative. Have a quick question and wonder if u can help. I have a Canon V65 Hi camcorder that plays Hi-8 fine. However whenever I have put two hi-8 metal particle tapes and they wont play, i.e. all I get is noise footage. Is the camera faulty or do I need a Sony Hi-8 Camcorer to play metal particle tapes?

Thanks

tan from london

Your Canon V-65 video camera should be able to play back metal particle tapes just fine. It sounds like the two Hi-8 metal particle tapes you got were pre-recorded by someone else. Were they recorded on a Hi-8 camcorder or a Digital8 camcorder?

Yes they were pre-recorded by someone else I think on a Hi-8 camera. If they were recorded ona digital 8 I guess that might be the cause of the problem.
