Sony launches MiniDisc with built-in camera
Sony's latest MiniDisc incarnation has a 1.3 megapixel built-in digital camera with a 1.5-inch color screen and MP3 playback. The MZ-DH10P Hi-MD can capture 1.3MP and VGA-quality images which can be stored on MiniDisc media. Captured shots can be displayed as a slideshow with music, individually or as thumbnails. This is a really cool idea! At first thought I was almost tempted to buy one . . . until I realized it is 1.3 MP . . . Why couldn't Sony it at least a 2 MP sensor? With new digital sensors going toward 6 and 8 MP on the consumer digital camera. It seems like a dumb move for Sony to release this cool swiss knife gadget with such low-resolution. At least they did one thing right: give it MP3 playback capability.
It seems Sony is always shortchanging itself. Last year it was the digital music audio players that were awesome, but couldn't playback MP3. This year is a cool music audio player based on MiniDisc that could finally play MP3, but comes with a low-resolution camera . . . when will Sony learn?
