R.I.P. VCR (PageSix)

Original Article: R.I.P. VCR (PageSix)
PageSix - DIGITAL video is killing the VCR, the home electronics star of the 1980s and '90s.

Pool o' VCR's . . . what would you do with all of your old video tapes when the VCR's finally disappears?

Transfer them to DVD of course. What else would you do with them? You could try giving them away or selling them in a yard sale as well. Fortunately for me, I don't really have a VHS collection to deal with, as I seldom ever bought tapes. I just rented them. Although I will be keeping my VHS copies of Star Wars since Lucas since seems adamant on never releasing the 'unaltered' versions of the trilogy on DVD. I can't say I'll really miss VHS. I got my first DVD player back in 1999 and haven't looked back since. I can't even begin to imagine what it would still be like to have to watch some beat up rental tape with picture so blurry it hurts your eyes and horribly distorted sound with constant "hissing" in the back ground. Not to mention having to watch a butchered pan & scan version of the movie and having to rewind(LOL!). I pitty anyone who still chooses(or actually prefers!) to watch a movie that way. VHS was "ok" back in 1985, but these days it's just completely substandard and pointless when DVD players are selling for under 40 bucks and DVDs are avaiable EVERYWHERE to rent or buy.. I will tell you this much though; if it one day becomes impossible to find hardware to play DVDs with, I'm going to have a bit more trouble... Hopefully that day is many years off.
