Cypress announces commercial sampling of its new 9.0 megapixel CMOS image sensors for high-end digital still cameras. These new image sensors offer image characteristics on par with that of more expensive charge coupled devices (CCDs). With a format of 23.3 mm x 15.5 mm and a maximum resolution of 3710 x 2434 pixels, the sensors are capable of delivering superior image quality, color rendition and dynamic range. I've always been a fan of the Canon EOS IX APS SLR camera. I wish Canon would pick up on this APS-size CMOS imager sensor, put it into the Canon EOS IX camera and turn it into a DSLR. I would be all over it!
