Keychain camera modification questions

Hi,
Recently I purchased a Vivitar mini digital camera on a keychain to put on a kite aerial photography rig. The rig has capability to trigger the shutter, but unfortunately after pressing the mode button it only stays on for 30 seconds. I want the camera to either not turn off after 30 seconds or have a time lapse. Is there any easy workaround to this that doesn't involve taking the camera apart? If not are there similarly cheap cameras but that serve my purposes?

I vaguely remember that the VistaQuest VQ1005 doesn't turn off automatically. I tried to confirm in my review, but couldn't find a mention of it . . .

Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, I checked it on the Walmart site and it said that there is an auto power off after 60 seconds. Is there software to modify this? If so what steps do I need to take? I guess its better than 30 seconds. Do you have any other ideas?

The only solution I can think of, if you don't want to take apart the camera is to put a big ass SD Card into the VQ1005 and keep the shutter button down . . . before you do that though, I don't know if the shooting mode on the VQ1005 is continuous or not.

If it doesn't have a continuous shooting mode, you'll have to rig a servo on the outside to continuously press the shutter button at an interval.

Does your Vivitar mini digital camera have a SD Card slot?

No, unfortunately I don't think that my Vivitar mini digital camera has an SD card slot. The kite rig that I built can only keep the button down. I seemed to have read somewhere on your site that both the VistaQuest VQ1005 and the disposable CVS camera use the same firmware since they both use the SmaL chipset and that you can modify the VistaQuest the same way you do the CVS. Is this true and if so how exactly is it done? I did not think that it would be so difficult.

Sorry, I can't help you there. I don't know how to hack the firmware on these cameras.
