Firmware SourceCode for Art-project

Hi everybody!

I'm an artist from Austria and I'm currently planning to modify a Digital Camera Firmware so I can integrate my own functions and algorithms in the camera. My main problem is, that the digicam companys just ignore my requests according to the firmware sourcecode which I need to extend the functionality of the cam. Has anyone heard of cameras with open source software, any tips or hints which company is friendly and cooperative or has a instruction set to build your own digital camera?

I believe it's possible on Digita enabled digital camera. The Digita OS allows you to customize the digital camera to add features and functionality. Someone even got arcade games to run on a Kodak DC265: MAMED!

The problem is that Digita OS is only available on a few obsolete Kodak digital cameras.
