Canon EOS-1D Mark IV – The Magnificent Digital Camera

Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation specialist in the manufacture of image and optical products. Canon is best known for cameras, computer printers, photocopiers and steppers. Canon launched its new high speed professional digital camera called Canon EOS-1D Mark IV.

It has a 16.1 effective Megapixels of image sensor with a 27.9 x 18.6 mm CMOS sensor. It features a magnesium alloy body having 76 gaskets and seals which eliminate weather and dust materials. It has a newly designed image sensor with a dual DIGIC 4 image processor which provides excellent photography. Mark IV features a brand new 45 point autofocus system. The total number of focusing points of Mark IV is unchanged at 45. It has a viewfinder which offers hundred percent of coverage both horizontally and vertically.

The dimension of this camera is 156 x 157 x 80 mm (6.1 x 6.2 x 3.1 inches). The LCD display of Mark IV is 3.0 inches in size with 920,000 dots of resolution which is equal to a VGA (640 x 480 pixels). The maximum image resolution will be 4896 x 3264 pixels. The low resolution includes 4320 x 2880 pixels for JPEG, 3672 x 2448 pixels for M-Raw, 3552 x 2368 pixels for JPEG only and 2448 x 1632 pixels for JPEG or S-Raw. The ISO sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 12800. The shutter speed varies from 30 sec to 1/8000 seconds.

The lens mount of this camera accepts Canon EF, TS-E and MP-E lenses. Mark IV has the capability of burst shooting up to ten frames per second. The operating modes of Mark IV include Aperture-priority AE, Shutter-priority AE, Program AE having Program Shift and Manual. A new generation Auto Lighting Optimizer (ALO) technology provides Off, Low, Standard, or High preset positions. This camera renders ten white balance modes. They are auto, five presets, five custom white balance settings, five personal white balance settings finally the specification of color temperature directly across the range 2500 to 10000 Kelvin.

The new custom functions relating to autofocusing system makes the camera more versatile. The AF point expansion function allows selecting any AF point as a starting point. The camera will track the subject from that point. This camera features EOS movie function which has the ability to capture 1080 pixels high definition video at 24, 25 and 30 frames per second. The camera contains 62 custom functions. The custom function expands the range to include ISO 50 at low end to ISO 102400 at high end.

Mark IV uses a LP-E4 lithium ion rechargeable battery. It gives 1500 shots on 73°F / 23°C condition for a single full time charge. The camera weighs 1180 grams (41.6 ounces). Mark IV has the ability to capture split second moments under most challenging conditions with a higher resolution capacity. It is the perfect camera for photographers shooting action, sports, news events and wild life photography.
