Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

Hi, I just want to maybe ask if you know the differences between the MK II lens of this configuration & the one reviewed, the MKII is apparently shipping with the 350D (& poss 20D) - I`m still waiting for my camera to come off backorder but I am getting a Canon 55mm-200mm lens included with the kit at a very respectible price (�679 GBP - Canon direct)

There really aren't much difference between the two. Version I is being obsoleted. The only differences I can see between them are some minor cosmetic changes. Otherwise the specification and block diagram of lens elements are exactly the same:

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II

Hi, first, great site! I found this site while searching for a more detailed step-to-step instruction for the modifying of this 18-55 lense for my gf's Eos IX-lite. Hope to see it appear soon on your site!

I have to use this Canon Rebel for work now. No lens instructions and I'm trying to figure out how to get the EFS 18-55 to the macro level. It won't let me go any further than about 35mm. Any suggestions?

Great source of info. Great site.
I wonder what happens if you use the back-cutted lens on a apc sensor sized body again, like my Rebel XTi/400D. Is there any change?
And have you tryed it on an Elan IIe body? Does the mirror hit the lens rear end?

You site is a very informative one.
But I have some reservations about the 18-55 mm Kit lens I got along with my Canon 400D.
This lens is too soft at the wider end. But from 28 mm onwards it is OK. Only if you keep the aperture around f/8 to f/11 you may expect some presentable result.
However, you may keep this lens for shooting during monsoon.[:)]
