Sony handycam black screen

Hi,
My name is Ana. I saw your complaint in internet about Sony handycam black screen back in around 2006-2007.

What did Sony do at that time?

My handycam NOW is having black screen, can play previous recording, but won't record new event, only record voice and no image.

Sony wants me to pay $311 for repair, but I think this is manufacture defects as I always "baby" my cam. This problem just started last week and it was sudden.

Do you suggest anything?

My camera has the same problem .If you google sony blsck screen or sony circut board recall or something along those lines you should find the info you need. The problem is due to a faulty board in the camera and sony had a class action about the problem I believe. It used to be mentioned on their web site. I never heard anything about the problem until my camera had the problem by then it was to late to get in on the free fix.
Hope that helps.

Hi all I have had the same problem with my black screen and it happened to me a few months ago. I contacted Sony and was informed that yes it was a common fault and they had been operating a free repair for a 5 year period but that it had finished last year so nothing I could do. They did give me head office address to write a letter but unfortunately it's one of those things I did't get round to as thought it was a waste of my time. I feel gutted as like others look after my things really well and knew it was through nothing I had done. Sony should repair any item that has been purchased in the time frame that they are aware sales were made on a faulty item. The time it goes faulty may be dependant on hop much it is used and for those like me whom do not use it a lot but need it for special moments should not be penalised by not being a allowed a free repair like others have. If anyone gets any clever idea of how we can go about getting free repair sorted as we should then please let us know. Many thanks troubled Sony cam people.
