Sony DCR TRV40 issue

Hi! I really need help in trying to transfer my videos in MiniDV Tapes to my vista-based laptop (Home Premium Edition). I have been backtracking the threads but still the same issue. My laptop is not detecting the TRV40 as a capture device. These are the steps that I was able to do so far..
1. Connected my TRV40 via a 1394 cable to my laptop (4pin to 4pin) and on the Handycam screen it shows 'DV in'
while in VCR or playback mode.
2. Made sure that the video streaming on my the TRV40 is switched to 'On'
3. I already downloaded the PMB and the USBDRVEN somewhere here and installed it correctly.
4. I also tried the Windows Movie Maker app but it still cannot detect my Handycam :,(
5. Although if I switch the Handycam to memory mode (Memory Stick), my laptop can detect it as an imaging device
and then I can copy the pics on the memory stick then. Though I can also do that using a card reader, I just
can't seem to figure out how to get the laptop to detect my Handycam and transfer my vids!

Help Please!!!

USBDRVEN is only needed for USB connection with a USB cable. Since you are using Firewire (IEEE 1394), you will not need this driver. But installing it should have no side-effect to what you are doing.

I'm not sure what PMB is, so I can't tell you if it supports Firewire transfer or not.

Next thing to check is if the camcorder shows up in Device Manager. And does it show any problems (if you see an exclamation mark) there.

Hi! Thank you so much for the quick reply. PMB is the Picture Motion Browser as the other app I tried other than the WMM.

In regards to the IEEE 1394, the laptop doesn't see the camcorder and doesn't even show the exclamation mark. What I did was to check the IEEE 1394 port and updated the driver. It did say that it is functioning correctly. Restarted the laptop and attached the Camcorder via the firewire cable. Still nothing on the device manager but on the camcorder screen it says 'DV in'. So I then removed the connection, uninstalled the driver for the IEEE 1394 port and restarted the laptop. It did automatically reinstalled the driver for the IEEE 1394 port but still nothing happens when I connect my Camcorder via the firewire cable.

I have an old Dell Inspiron laptop which also has a firewire port and runs on XP. Same issue where it doesn't recognize the camcorder. I'm thinking if the cable itself is the problem but it is quite new, and that the Camcorder says 'DV in' whenever I attached the other end to the firewire port of the laptop.

I really am confused and frustrated right now for I have been working on it for more than a week. Any other suggestions where I might have gone wrong?
