I've personally experienced it more than once ... try these but on your own risk ..
Hold the camera firmly, and then bang it (bottom of the camera) to your other palm several times ... a little hard is okey ...
if the lens is out and then you experience the lens fault ... (experienced this too several times) .. hold the lens, then turn it to the left and right a little hard while pulled and pushed it a little bit .. try to turn on again ...
My experience: it's just need a little bit shock therapy ...:)
BTW my E3700 still working well until now {i think I bouught it early 2004}.. and it become my kids loving project things, especially after completed it with a 2GB SDcard for a longer period of movie.
Hope this help ...

Thanks! It worked. I have never dropped the camera so I have no idea why I had a lens error (maybe from non-use?). In any case the bang worked, my camera works and I only hope it holds out.
