Thanks for the pic. I will be buying this mic, solely to break it open and access the R/L audio input wires, so I can create a generic Line Input feature for my new HDR-HC3 High Def camcorder. It appears this cam does not have a standard (alternate) audio input (line-in jack). ANy other options / ideas welcomed..... Bob

Bob,

Did you have any luck? I'm trying to figure out what the pin outs are on the AIS. You can see where I'm stuck now at:

AIS (Active Interface Shoe)

Thanks!

Title: no mic input on DCR-DVD403
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: I have the handycam dvd 403 camera. What a great unit...it is the best picture I've seen on any handycam. That's the good news. The bad news is that there is no mic input. Sony, why are you so stupid..you can't even sell the mic's you make to people who have the 403. Here's a solution, though. . . .

After closer inspection and a local trip to Radio Shack, I found a perfect location for a 2.5mm jack to be mounted inside the Microphone, inside the shoe . . .

Excerpt: There isn't one, but you can easily make one . Sony Part #183064611 is a hotshoe plug with wire leads. It sells for about $65. It's a nicer alternative to hacking a Sony HST1 mic, because, well, it just looks neater. Once you receive it from Sony Parts you'll need to solder an 1/8" stereo jack to th . . .
