EF-S Lens on EF Mount

Hi,

So you tried the hacked 18-55mm EFS lens, on your D30 and you had no mirror-slapping-into-lens issues, right? I'm thinking about getting my dad an affordable D30 body, and modifying the kit lens from my 300D kit (I use a Tamron 17-35/2.8-4 myself) for him...just wanted to see if others had success w/ this combo, and looks like it's so...

Yup! The Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens worked just fine on my Canon EOS D30 DSLR camera. Still working today. I tried this lens on Canon EOS IX APS camera as well . . . it worked. I tried it on Canon EOS full-frame cameras, and this lens worked partially. I documented the whole EF-S lens modification process and the result on different cameras in the Hacking Digital Cameras book.

Thanks for the reply, Chieh. Sorry mine is so late - I don't come by here very often =)

Wow, you wrote a book?? I didn't know that. I'll have to take a look! Do you have big circulation on it so far?

Hi maurice,

This is the first time I wrote a book, and the HDC book has only been out on the market for three months, so I'm not sure how to judge circulation. I'm sure it's not beating Stephen King's The Dark Tower fiction series (which I'm a great fan of). But the HDC book is published simultaneously in Canada and United States. It's available world-wide. In regions where the printed version is not available, people can obtain a digital copy through Amazon or other sources.

It's the first book of its kind for photographers. Plus, a lot of hard work went into it. So I hope it becomes popular enough for similar books in this genre. It would be a winning situation for enthusiastic photographer like us.
